Figured it out. It appears there should be 2 ball bearings which fit in the grooves of the back of the barrel, mine must have fallen out when I took out the barrel.

Cheers Dippy I was hoping for something that shows the inside of 35. Seems like the barrel isnt connecting with whatever activates the locking mechanism.

So my 86 110 2.5 petrol defender has a leak on the exhaust at the joint ,so dismantled it ( 4 piece ) as it never hung right. Put it back together properly and now its too short! The back section will not meet the center section due to the big upward bend fouling the frame. I can get it...

The popping, it turns out was due to the crack in the manifold sucking air and creating the pop.

Turns out exactly that, took it to a Landy mechanic he recons when it was running out of fuel it would be running lean and the additional heat would be enough to crack the 30 year old manifold.

Thanks for that Twelsh seal kit came today.

Need to put new seals in mine soon, leaking from the front. Do you have a link to Busters how to fit? Cheers
