Update I worked out how to short the solenoid (I think think the right method?) I shorted the red mains post on the solenoid with the small spade terminal, the starter worked and she started up much to my relief as it has been several weeks. (I had the ignition switch in the run position) So...

Martin 1512 Thanks for the advice, I pulled the big green relay (nearest the driver) and tested it with a maplin relay tester after 10 cycles it passed. You mentioned shorting the starter motor, how do i do this and what position does the ignition switch need to be in to get her to start...
