Thanks everyone for the advice, this is the kind of stuff I was hoping for- all those things you don't think to plan for.

    Galvanised bits

All great advice, thanks. I think I'll be fairly comfortable with the chassis swap, I'll have a think about the bulkhead! but part of me thinks when I'm in that deep anyway maybe I should just go for it!

    Galvanised bits

My chassis is shot and my bulkhead is starting to give concern, so it's just a chassis and bulkhead swap, but I'll be renewing dodgy bits I discover along the way. it's not going to be a full resto.

    Galvanised bits

I am thinking of going down the galvanised chassis swap on my 110. can any one offer any advice? I was going to get a decent bulkhead and repair it and then galvanise that as a cheaper option to a new galvanised bulkhead as they are so pricey on top of a new chassis. I'd call myself a novice...

    steering wheels

I was actually thinking of going bigger and thinner, more old school maybe from a series or a p4? I had a vw t25 and I liked the size of wheel on that. I suppose I would need to watch my knuckles on the door though!

    steering wheels

A simple question to most of you I'm sure, are all land rover, in fact all British Leyland steering wheels interchangeable?

    Pickup 110 or 109

Don't limit yourself looking for a pick up, a hard top is easy converted, I have just done it to my 110. Truck cab parts are fairly cheap, or if you are lucky, you might find a pick up owner who wants a hardtop and will swap parts with you! ^ whoops! :-!

Help please, key will not turn ignition at all now

Hot wiring is easy enough to tide you over, but you need the barrel off to disengage the steering lock.

Prob wrong section, hope someone has the answer

You could weld up a couple of heavy duty stools/trestle type thing that the trailer would roll onto if you placed them one in front of the wheels and one behind, so the trailer side would rest on the stools. That way there's no need to alter the trailer and the stools can be moved if need be.

What have I let myself into ?

If it doesn't leak oil, there's none in it! :-P:-P

    condensation

Obviously the best bet is stop the damp, not an easy task in my defender! A quick fix is to drill a tiny hole through somewhere not noticeable, this will let air pass freely and stop the condensation as the 2 temperatures meet.

Police warning - Increase in tratter thefts

I'm a great believer in chain gangs. I think it would deter some of the more petty criminals. Unfortunately. There is too much money to be made in crime compared to the lenient punishments to put off these scum

Don't think of it as buying a landy so much as starting a mechanics apprenticeship!
