    new shock absorber problem

Doof324, i eventually changed back to the original shocks as the car was unbearable to drive. The supplier gave a refund but claimed there was nothing wrong with the new shocks ?. I did remove them and prime them as well, but that made no difference. Once the original shocks were installed...

    new shock absorber problem

Well i stripped the passenger side down tonight and also took apart an old strut i had to make sure i hadn't put it together wrong, but there is no wrong and right way, its all very simple. Primed the shock, put all back together and it made no difference at all, still banging. I also checked...

    new shock absorber problem

Thanks all, The reference number on the boxes appears to be right, but they could be short, when i compressed the spring and took it off the old shock i had to press it down further to tighten the bolt on the new shock, say about 10-15mm. With regards to tightening them, that was my first...

    new shock absorber problem

Folks, looking for some advise on a problem with front new shocks on a 2003 td4, i installed them last week and all seemed straight forward, the only problem i had was that the bump stops were damaged and a bit short (20mm short), but i needed the car on the road so i carried on. I also ground...

    Dual Mass Flywheel Failure

I changed the clutch at 180,000 miles and didn't change the DMF. My mechanic said it was in good condition so i decided to risk it. I've heard plenty warnings, but very little about them actually failing. 40k done since and no sigh of any trouble yet.

    FL1 Dampers

Ive also been looking at new dampers and ended up ordering Armstrong shocks earlier today from Trillick Landrover, I think Armstrong may have been the original suppliers to landrover, can anyone confirm that ?. I also noticed that famous four have a good deal on Monroe front shocks. There's...

    Weird engine malfunction

I'd agree with Epicuser, when my first pump went the car wouldn't start when hot, but tapping under the rear wheel arch would sort it, either that or wait 1hr for it to cool down. When the second pump went (100k later) the engine light would come on at 2500 revs or anytime i floored the...

    DIY VCU service

Bugsb / Jonaf , Thanks for the great info, I'm definitely willing to give this a try, but still unsure of some details. Can you advise: - roughly how much fluid you had to replace. - did you have a 'wheel up test result / bench test from before' - how you decided that you had the right...

    New parts supplier recommendations??

i've used Trillick Autoparts (Trillick Landrover Cenre) near Omagh in the past, very good to deal with, with reasonable delivery costs. If there are some parts that autofactors cant get then Trillick are a good alternative rather than going to the main dealers. They do supply Britpart, but you...

    VCU Torque test results

Thanks Hippo / Mad Hat Man, i knew you were going to say that :) Even with that reading i don't think i have much resistance when reversing on full lock ?. I will check the rear brakes however, I just did an overhaul on them for the annual NCT (MOT) so i don't think there's any problems...

Freelander 1 What mileage is your Freelander 1 on?

hello Spacemonkey, thats a fair question. I bought the car at 4 years old with 36k on it, it was one owner and full Landrover history, with no record or sign that the vcu had been changed. so i cant 100% vouch for the full mileage, but I've put 170k on it since. i make sure that i rotate...

Freelander 1 What mileage is your Freelander 1 on?

2003 td4 with 206,000 miles, I've replaced 2 fuel pumps, the clutch at 180k and one driveshaft, other than that its been minor service items, still on the original vcu !. I think these engines are good for very high mileage, not as confident about the drive train, but so far so good.

    VCU Life

2003 td4 with 177,000 miles, all the tyres are changed as a set and i'm generally driving on country roads at 40-60 mph, VCU is probably engaged every day on some gravel roads/lanes . I'd be interested to see if the high mileage units have something in common. 140k of the above mileage in the...

    MP3 conversion

hello Folks, My first ever post anywhere, so go easy. I had a similar problem and did the following 1 - Get a cable with headphone jack on one end and right/left Phono on the other. 2 - cut off the phono jacks and splice the right and left wires into the cable running between the cd unit...
