Good morning. I own a 2016/17 discovery sport. Recently had one of the headlights replaced as is was cracked. The new light side light does not work. It comes on when you turn the lights on then goes off after a second or two. Car has now failed the control technique so unable to drive it. Is this a software issue? The garage I use seems unable to find any information. And won’t use the land rover garage here as has bad experience in the past.

Where abouts in France are you are there are quite a few of us over here, someone might be in rnage to help.
Did you replace like for like?
and welcome to the forum by the way.

You could use the Introduce yourself part of the forum and do just that!

Hi thank you for replying. Am actually in Luxembourg not France. A local garage replaced the light as it was covered by insurance. Thankfully. The garage is usually very good but seems a bit lost here.

If a garage did the woprk they should have done it properly, sadly you need to take it back to them, show them what has happened and get them together with the insurance company, to provide you with a proper headlight. OR connect it up properly.

But this isn't to say that it isn't another electrical issue. which I honestly think it must be as, if the light comes on at all it can't be a bulb issue.
I'd get onto Land Rover technical dept, as yours is still relatively young, and tell them about the issue. You could also ask the garage/insurance company for a courtesy car to run around in until the problem is solved.
I'm in the Tarn in SW France so not near you, but if you go on the Landyzone International Rescue part of the forum you may find someone closer to you.
Best of luck.

May I ask what side headlight was replaced please , are they halogen or xenon , also wondering does it have a park light

Wonder if maybe one of the pins inside the headlight connecter has pushed back when the new light was fitted ,

Plus as u don’t have self levelling air suspension has the headlight beam been set up correctly , if there xenon’s did they fit a new headlight ecu pack to the new headlight

Suppose another thought is there any change year wise with ur old headlight in do the part numbers match

Also seen that with regards to different software settings , Hope u get it resolved as indeed down to the garage

Hi, I have no idea what type of light it is. Whatever they usually have i assume. When i say park light I mean the small/side light which is meant for daytime etc. The car was bought in Lux.
What is the best way to contact Landrover technical dept?

Many thks and sorry for all the questions, it was just on the off chance , found a picture which I assume are ur headlights

Ah I see the DRL’s arnt working , indeed fingers crossed in theory should just be a software change , have also seen a pin pushed back inside the headlight connector , as it’s fitted it can sometimes push one back

Nothing really difficult I assume in using a multimeter to ensure the power is there unless of course it’s a faulty headlight

Thanks for this. There is power getting to it as it lights up when you unlock/lock etc. And when you turn the lights on. But after a second or two, it goes off. Now worried that if the software is updated the other side will be out of date and not work.
Is it easy to download updates? I really do not want to go to the dealership here.

Ur so welcome , That’s sounds very similar for when upgrade to a xenon lights to D3/4’s , it then reqs diagnostics to be plugged in for a software update , , however on yours as it’s like for like I would have thought it would be plug and play

But when u do a software update it would be for both headlights and not just one of them

Wonder if the garage could have swapped them over just to prove the new light actually works, of course understand it won’t fit into the body work but just to prove of the new light is working ok

Don’t blame u having to go to a dealer , particularly with there prices and also found them very unhelpful

I’ll have a dig through some of the links etc I’ve got in case I can find something for u

Thanks but Kontz by name Kontz by nature. They really are not customer service focused.

Ah, apologises , I’ll have a search through my manuals / links to see if I can find something for u

Are u able to throw it back to the garage that originally done the headlight replacement or what about speaking to ur insurance company to tell them ur not happy , maybe they could recommend another garage locally

Am still searching for u

So just found the following , alas don’t know if it was like this before with them going off , If you're in Park or with EPB on (as you'd hope when you stepped out), they turn off.

Just checked and DRL'S on if handbrake on, car in park or both as long as engine is running.

They DON'T come on until drive has been selected, so if you start in park they won't be on.

They do Bob but they go off if you don't start the car.

Alas this is all I can find out I’m afraid ,hopefully the insurance company will find a garage that will sort it out for u if u tell them ur not happy

Plse let us know how u get on

I messaged the dealer just in case it was a known issue. The reply was that they would need to take the car for the whole day to do a diagnosis. And offered the 27/06 as the first available date. Belux Land Rover just got back to me and asked for the details of my garage so they could try and help them. Hopefully deal with non official dealers. Otherwise it’s a cartel. Not very EU compliant.
