    Land Rover Discovery 1 V8i 3,9 L EFI doesn´t start

I took a video from the rotor arm (). It is moving back to it´s original position, but it only moves a few degress. Is it oaky like that? The spring in the top of the distributor cap is still working, but I have a second cap and rotor arm, which I am going to install tomorrow.

    Land Rover Discovery 1 V8i 3,9 L EFI doesn´t start

I did the compression test with the spark plugs removed and at full throttle. After a short period of cranking, the pressure did not rise higher than 8 bar. The gauge is one from Ebay for 20€. I will check if the rotor arm returns to it´s position when released. If the springs and weights are...

By the way, yes, compression is low on all eight cylinders. On the first stroke, it starts at about 7 bar and rises to 8 bar on subsequent strokes.

Is there any way I can check which of these issues is causing the difficulty?

    Land Rover Discovery 1 V8i 3,9 L EFI doesn´t start

Good evening, sorry for my late reply. I checked the compression on all eight cylinders today, as described in the Haynes manual. When cranking the engine, the compression goes from 7 bar to 8 bar, no more. The workshop manual says it should be either 10.2-10.9 bar or 11.5-12.2 bar. I'm not...

    Land Rover Discovery 1 V8i 3,9 L EFI doesn´t start

Today we tried to start the engine without the fuse for the fuel pump, but with easy starter. Unfortunately nothing has changed.

The engine does not sound different to me. Thank you for your advice! I will check the engine when the fuse for the fuel pump is out. If you try to start the engine and look at the spark plugs, they are wet.

    Land Rover Discovery 1 V8i 3,9 L EFI doesn´t start

I am currently trying to get a device for a compression test. Is the timing light enough to check the spark at the spark plug in the cylinder, or do I need an in-line spark tester for that? Greetings Leo

The speed at startup was between 130-160. When the spark plugs were out, all had a spark. I have already changed the ignition amplifier, but without success. At the moment I don't have a video of the startup, but in the next few days I can post one here.

    Land Rover Discovery 1 V8i 3,9 L EFI doesn´t start

Good evening, today I checked the ignition coil and it looked ok. So I continued looking for the pick-up coil, which was also ok. Last but not least, I compared the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and the position of the pick-up coil. When the first cylinder was at TDC, the pick-up coil...

Thanks for the picture Haynes manual. I will test the ignition coil the next few days, but at the moment I do not have access to the Disco

    Land Rover Discovery 1 V8i 3,9 L EFI doesn´t start

Hello again, I just connected the battery + to the ignition coil +. When I tried to start the engine, nothing happened, except that the ignition was on all the time, even if the key was not inserted. I could hear an ignition twice but the engine did not start. Is there any way I can easily check...

@discool I'm still wondering why there is a problem with the ignition coil when there is spark on every spark plug. Is the spark then too small or not strong enough to ignite?
