My new Galv Chassis' AND Power Steering

Just trace the other end of the G/Y and see where it goes, or which dash panel switch is still missing connections after you’ve wired everything else.

So the solid green one is a switched and fused live, usually feeding something like a brake light switch or a wiper motor switch. I’ve seen green/yellow used for either the heater motor or the oil pressure switch in some wiring looms. Good luck! Iain

My new Galv Chassis' AND Power Steering

IT’s looking great. I’m just finishing my S3 rebuild. A 1971 now with a 200tdi and a galv chassis and bulkhead. It’s taken me a year of working evenings and weekends. Electrics took ages because I added several relays to reduce the load on all the old switches. A bit more sound proofing to do...

    Galvanised bulkhead

I fitted a shielder bulkhead to my 1971 S3 last year and had no problems at all with its fit or alignment. The ordering process was a bit lengthy but the bulkhead is good. Some excess galv in places, some holes missing and a couple that seemed to be ‘extra’ and a slight ripple in the sheet...

    Series 3 Winch recommendations?

I’ve had a Superwinch Talon 9.5 on my 1971 Series 3 for a few years now. It’s relatively fast, has a good pull and always works perfectly - unlike the previous Britpart one which caught fire when clearing fallen tree branches…. It was easy to install on a welded up mounting plate.

Haha just noticed that the post I replied to was 9 months old so forget everything i said. Glad your rebuild is going well

I second that. Much better to conduit it outside the chassis. As part of a rebuild, I've just stripped all the old paint off my 20 year-old galv chassis for repainting. Under the oil and paint the chassis was almost perfect except for a small spot where mud was trapped just behind the fuel...

Oil leak on a newly bought Series 3 109 and a question about diff

It looks like a Salisbury rear axle, but doesn't look exactly like mine. Maybe just dirty or the light. It's easier to tell from the rear. A good clean-up would help. The boot on the front propshaft looks fairly new - they usually don't last very long.

Thanks to you and Dag019 for the recommendations. Very helpful. I’ll have a look at the options. I like the idea of clearer coatings if they’re effective. Cheers

L322 Wheel bearing or something else

Sometimes you can feel additional heat in the hub from a failing bearing after a long drive - as long as your brakes aren’t binding of course…

Thanks. I’ll need to review the latest debates. Went off waxoyl due to its tendency to drip out in the summer. What do you use?

    Heated garage - if only!

I seam sealed with puraflex 40 after t-washing but didn’t waxoyl it.

    replacement bulkhead

Is that the same as brick cleaner? I haven't tried it. We did a lot of mechanical cleaning using needle a needle scaler, wire mop on an angle grinder and some of those excellent scotchbrite drill mops but all pretty messy. Lots of rust swept off the garage floor - we must have saved a ton of...

    replacement bulkhead

Yep. Masai red also an option - I think that was an early range rover colour. Red not my first choice but I had a tub, wings and bonnet in red so, rather than repainting the entire vehicle bronze green or petrol blue I decided to just paint the bulkhead red to match. I brush painted too with...
