ok ok. fair doo's ill try and remove the ird. the extra time to remove it will no doubt "speed the job up" anyhow.:cool:
does the td4 exhaust downpipe get in the way... can i leave that on?

even if brake lights work, it still could be the brake light switch. ive had 3 go. and each time its been one of the three gold prongs snapped off inside at the bottom of the switch causing it to short.

but i beleive i can access all the bolts on the gearbox flange. incl the small one by IRD etc.
i just wanted to try and remove g.box with out having to strip all the chassis to bits. plus didnt wasnt to disturb the o/s drive shaft if i could help it.

I'm looking to remove my Td4 gearbox and leave the IRD inplace . I've seen it done on a 1.8 is it possible on the Td4?

to conclude this thread, I just wanted to say that "jamesmartin" was correct in pointing in the direction of the slave cylinder. I looked under the freelander gearbox to find hydraulic fluid around the open holes at the bottom of the bearbox flange
....time to fit a new clutch...

im leaning towards thinking my slave cylinder may be worn. if so, ill change the clutch. whats the best kit to go for? I was thinking of borg & beck or Luk.

thanks for the input Dave. ill go over those areas again and check. i'm wondering it it would be the join in the hose. I may pop the join and check the seals.

the fluid reservoir its still brimming...
I assumed a leaking slave would cause clutch slip after a couple of guys at work had their slaves leak causing clutch slip.
if I do have to renew slave im happy to do this, but you can understand how im reluctant to do this, if this isn't the...

im getting desperate for some help with my TD4 Clutch hydraulics.
the problem started this year when my biting point became very low, and selecting a gear was almost impossible...
quick inspection revealed the master cylinder to be leaking into the footwell
so fitted a new cylinder...

That would be great. They seem to have the same metal flange gasket. So it could work with the correct modded decat pipe I hope

I'm toying with the idea of fitting a l series link pipe (early type no cat/centre silencer) to my td4
I know the link pipe would come short of my td4 down pipe, so I would fit a decat pipe (looks like the flange decat-to-downpipe would need to be re-cut and positioned.)

ok so feel like a total fool now.
basicly got the car up on the ramps, looked at the turbo actuator, then noticed that the filter on the boost solinoid pipe looked brown. (last time i noticed it was clear/yellow filter) so pulled it off, and hey presto!
when i blew threw the filter muddy...
