I was told by a wise old land rover mechanic that if it wasn't leaking it was probably empty. You can't beat a visual sign that all is well, as long as it's not fuel.

Fortunately I am a member of the RAC, and the salesman told me that the current Defender is possibly the best that Land Rover have produced. Is there a published list of the most common faults found on new Defenders?
