A 10th? Jeez, they've lost a shed load of money since February, I bought an R reg 4.6 HSE with LPG and 115k miles on today for £1500.

I took mine to Kwik Tit on Sunday for a re-gas. The aircon was working when I took it in. It doesn't now.

I've experimented with AC on / AC off MPG loads of times and find it very difficult to get more than 0.5 mpg more with it off. On a motorway run it's more economical to use the AC than have the windows open on something the size of a Range Rover anyway, aerodynamic drag makes sure of that.

Mine's in the first 3500 P38s built, so it'll be that on mine. Irritating when it's fine the rest of the time, blend motors etc all behave and the AC is ice cold when that's what I want - unless the ambient thingy plays up.

I freed off a clutch on a Classic the other week by starting it in 2nd gear with the transfer box in neutral, the clutch pedal fully depressed and right foot firmly on the brake. Popped the transfer box into low, Rangie jumped forwards about a foot and the clutch was free. Made a bit of a clunk...

Mine does that most of the time. I find that starting the engine, then switching off after a second or two, then switching the ignition on again tends to sort it out. Sometimes takes a couple of goes, but it works on 9/10 attempts. I'm hoping it's just the outside temp sensor is knackered...

I suspect it might be a good idea to ring Ashcroft Transmissions. If your LR specialist says they're different, I'd say they're probably right, but the ratios, etc are identical between the 4.0 and 2.5, and they both use the 4HP22.

The diseasel uses the same ZF 4HP22 as the 4.0, which is a different box from that in the 4.6. I don't know about the bellhousing, or if the torque converter from a 4.0 will fit the diesel though, so be careful. The gearbox itself isn't very heavy - unless the transfer box is attached, so if...

One of the groups I use has a similar operation known as the "Underground Railway" for some reason. It works well, covers most of Europe, but can take its time. Payment is normally in beer and / or curry, which is a bonus.

That's strange. My petrol turbo doesn't build up enough heat to get the gearlever hot, and it produces a lot more heat than any other motor I've known in a Disco / Rangie.

I take it this lot is an option then?

I suspect you have major issues with your engine earth. Check the earth straps between the engine and chassis, I suspect your problem will be the transmission selector is being used as an earth. Happens quite a lot.. The auto gearlever isn't directly connected to the gearbox, it's cable...

Mine is always there as well. If it's very bad traffic, and I've been in it for around 20 mins, it might rise to a couple of needle-widths above that, not never gone any higher.
