The constant heating and cooling causes the manifold to warp slightly (mine ended up rocking by about 2mm when put against a true straight edge but that was quite extreme). The warping puts strain on the studs and usually ends up snapping a few, some snap just below the line of the head so you...

Are you sure it's the box? If it's a td5 then they're prone to warping the exhaust manifold and popping studs, this leads to a screaching / whistling noise under load.

Haha, each to their own I suppose. Admittedly it's not a perfect fit (made in China - probably says it all ! ! ) but can't see how it's going to damage the paint?? Practical purpose is that it keeps the stone chips off the company logo on the bonnet and it looks different to most of the other...

It's been an interesting "adventure" getting here with it, especially considering a few minor hiccups (such as the BCU completely dying and having to be replaced!) but it's been worth it.
Spots on the front are all by a company called MicTuning, available on eBay but I got these through Amazon...

So, the ongoing project of getting my Disco from "school-run" to "workhorse" vehicle is coming along. It started life as a standard 2004 Discovery 2 TD5 Landmark manual. Mileage is currently 137k and it's only had a couple of plates on the chassis (so far!!) so it's generally doing pretty well...

haha yeah pictures are on the way - I promise (but they look sooooo much better in the daylight!) - wanted to put roof rack on first and make it look (almost) finished!
makes sense about pipes, i'll have a measure myself tomorrow and see. I was sort of hoping someone else might have already...

Ok so I've gone and bought a winch bumper from Defender Upgrades -
http://defenderupgrades.co.uk/product/wildbear-discovery-2-led-fog-light-winch-bumper/
Overall really pleased with it, looks great, LED fog lamps are superb, I've added an A bar and a numberplate holder which make it look a...

So, LED bulbs went back to Halfords - no trouble getting a refund (well done Halfords!) - standard bulbs back in place. Shame really as the LED bulbs were much brighter and significantly more visible (especially in bright sunshine). Hopefully there'll be a similarly bright LED version available...
-
Cheers everyone - after a few minutes swapping back to the original bulbs (and a few raised eyebrows from my neighbours who seem to think i'm slightly made for bothering with a Discovery at all as all they see is me doing stuff to it!), it was a trip to Halfords with receipt and screenshot of...
-
Hmmmm, in that case I might just take them back to Halfrauds for a refund - they were expensive and clearly are not fit for purpose (I just rechecked the website, put in my vehicle reg. so parts listed are model specific, and it definitely lists these as direct replacement indicator bulbs for...

thanks guys - it's way better than Wikipedia on here!! (Wiki usually gets the answers wrong!!) :)
Looks like i'll be spending some time in the morning doing an interweb search for the correct LED flasher unit (sounds the easier fix), hopefully Haynes or Google will tell me where the flasher...
-
So here's one that's got me puzzled:
Just changed over to LED indicators (had to change a couple of worn / intermittent bulbs following MOT so thought I may as well go LED) - proper Halfrauds ones not cheap Chinese Fleabay imports - all works fine, much brighter, but for some reason they flash...
-
Brilliant, thanks, that looks like it. I'll have a word with them before I order and double-check but it looks right to replace the wiring for the whole lamp cluster rather than an individual bulb - but if that's how it has to be done then at that price I don't mind :)
-
Thanks guys but it's not that type.
Might have to find it via a VIN number - maybe a call to Paddock Spares in the morning might find it??
My lamps come out as a complete moulded unit with just 2 small holes in the back where the bulbs / holders lock in and the holders are small black...
-
Thanks but that's not the one. Mine has the twin element stop lamp / tail light and is 2 small bulb holders that fit into the back of the lamp housing with a slight turn to lock in.
It looks more like this:
but has 3 wires coming out the of back of it (the one in the picture seems to have a...
