I have finally tracked this down to the seal between the camshaft carrier and cylinder head. This seal doesn't have a gasket, as it houses the camshaft between it, but instead relies on Hylogrip 2000. The only problem is the job involves removing the cylinder head bolts which is starting to get...

I had a good look at the leak today. It is pooling on top of the 'oil pump'? below the exhaust manifold and next to the centrifugal filter. The vehicle is getting through quite a lot of oil but isn't burning any or losing any water. Could it be the head gasket? it certainly seems to be coming...

Thanks for the advice. It was the switch under the bonnet. It wasn't making contact with the bonnet. I have bent the bracket up and it works a treat now.

Brilliant, an easy fix for a change. I'll have a look tomorrow. My allotted half an hours spannering has already become one and a half hours.

When I set the alarm/immobiliser on my 99 defender it either beeps twice or sounds the horn twice. It does one or the other and sometimes both. Is this normal? and does anyone know how to stop it? I want to use the alarm but its not very sociable if I set it late at night.

Its definately oil. And no I haven't fixed it yet. I prioritised on getting the vehicle through an MOT first. I hope to borrow a pressure washer next week.

Thanks for the ideas. I hope to pressure wash the engine bay and clean it all up. I will check all areas mentioned above. Is the cam cover the same as the rocker cover? I changed this on my discovery, its a real pain to get on right.

Both oil filters are clean and leak free. As is the banjo fitting for the turbo feed. The oil is definitely pouring down the side of the block.

Those pictures don't look like a td5 engine bay. I can't see the washer bottle fitting behind the headlight.

I have a britpart set which I got from one of the land rover parts sites. I did email Britpart to get an exact list of what is included in the set. They sent me a pdf list, but apparently it is too big to post on this site. pm with an email address me if you want it.

I have just fitted a Britpart winch bumper to my 2000 discovery. This has left the screen wash bottle looking very exposed. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone make a protection plate? or can you fit a different washer bottle that isn't so low?
