steering damper and drop arm - dry dry dry

The drop arm ball joint is knackered or will be in months without a seal. I think it's an MOT failure as it is anyway. The rubber on the other balljoint shown in the pictures is twisted and this will also break unless you let it straighten up. I'd see if you can work it round with your...

    Lift kits??

My 2" Terrafirma kit is excellent. The springs are progressive so you get a softer ride and more articulation than the standard H/D springs. I haven't fitted new radius arms but it handles well enough. All fitted in an afternoon. I recommend a scissor jack or similar to get the front axle...

    TD5 Heater Problem

Now that's simply inviting trouble!! :D Check to see if you've got 12v going into the heater box, that way you can isolate the wiring & switch. If no voltage I'd check the switch next. Alternatively Webasto or Thermal Underwear

    new suspension

IMHO OEM shockers are all ****e for a vehicle of this weight and suspension design. Go for ones with a higher volume of fluid than std. Armstrong make them and so do others.

    new suspension

OME's are meant to be very good... made for the outback aren't they. I fitted Terrafrima they are good value. Make a nice ride. Replacing the shockers is a straight forward spanner job. Take care to chock the wheels and stick it in diff lock when jacking it up, especially when using a...

Steering Issue with 2 inch lift (wheels locking)

I'm waiting for the inevitable "bearings fooked in my front diff" post now. It could be the CV joints fooked also. While the front prop is off jack the front wheels up and try spinning the wheels by hand while they are on full lock. Stick with it James, an interesting thread this, nearly...

Looking for a decent 300tdi 90 in the South East

Yeah, I think you're right. We would do much better by spending at least £3,500. There's a couple of decent lookers around for that. Generaly speaking there are very few for sale at all, which is a good sign in my view.

Looking for a decent 300tdi 90 in the South East

Hi all, I don't think this thread should count as spam so here goes... My Stepson wants to get himself a 300 TDi 90 for around £3k. We've been looking around and thought we'd found one but it was a dud. A clear MoT failure (despite having 10 months to run it) and significant problems with...

What to check on a 300TDi?

Found a great post on buying a Defender. My question was about 300TDi engines so that's why I posted it here. Isn't the ashtray on these engines located under the big knob on the rocker cover?

Steering Issue with 2 inch lift (wheels locking)

The proplem is most likely as mentioned already in terms of the inside of the wheels hitting the radius arms, however this will only affect pretty much full lock. I think it is unlikely to be the prop shaft causing this, If it were to lock up only one wheel on the axle will skid on the road...

    Rear crossmember

Hi Rich, I don't know the answer off the top of my head. What I would say is start by checking the Crossmember part numbers for the two different vehicles. The part numbers can be obtained by downloading the Microcat catalogue.
