What happens is that on a longish run on a motorway, heat from the gearbox causes the nylon cup on the bottom of the gearlever to bind and make it difficult to move.Once it cools down normal movement returns. Are these your symptoms?.R380 boxes are fairly notchey when cold.

Probably the nylon Cup which sits at the bottom of the gearstick selector and holds the metal ball which the bottom of the gearstick moves in.Not an uncommon fault, strip down and regrease but u may have to remove center console to do job.

Replace with a genuine one, around £70,pattern ones dont last as long and have seen incorrect readings on non genuine.

Try unpluging the air flow meter, and going for a drive.Ecu will run on default settings,so see if it improves,if it does it probably a f*cked afm.

First check would be the air bags, sounds like one is leaking.Soapy water the air bags especialy the area where they fold under themselfs.Get it sorted sooner rather than later as you could burn out the compressor if left to long.

Check first thread..Its a 300 tdi not a d2....Sounds like spider fault,by pass pump solinoid and starter solinoid.

Its the traction control cutting in,Try dropping down off curb slower and it wont make the noise,They all do this if you accelarate off a drop.the noise is the abs system momentarly braking the spinning wheel.See if the TC light flicks on next time the noise starts.

Just read these posts and would agree with you on this one

20" storm alloys look great on a D2,think need matching wheel nuts and spigot adaptor rings to fit them safley...check on ebay as some shops sell it as complete kits.
