1987 Defender 90 for sale. Galvanised! SOLD

Now sold, trailered away, £10k. Sad to see it go, gave new owner full details of engine problem, and iffy brakes. Plus a full history of rebuild both to chassis and engine. Its worth what people will pay for it.

Chassis Replacement Advice pls - UK based, Defender 90

Yep, I did mine on my drive last year. A complete strip down and rebuild, all by myself. Looking around at the time, you could get it done for £1500 - £2000 by cheapies (plus the actual chassis cost), a good workshop bumped that up a huge amount. £10k is no problem - and even then its an...

    Why is there always one!

I think there is an exhaust manufacturer in Tiverton, devon, that makes SS exhaust bits for landys - dont know if they sell as complete systems though.. My rear box came from them (son used to work there a few years ago). Not sure if they sell direct or through a disty.

1987 Defender 90 for sale. Galvanised! SOLD

Yes, I know it should be a 200tdi, but the engine change is correctly recorded in v5, and was done a long time before I bought it. Major parts are noted as to source. All parts I used are from new from reputable dealers. Ok, not original Landrover, but how many actually use them. Original head...

1987 Defender 90 for sale. Galvanised! SOLD

Chasing the insurance company from when it was classified as Cat C was well worth it. They just got back and confirmed that it was not mine that was written off, different make/model. So, not a Cat C after all.

Important - Are you actually insured?

Update. The original insurer has been able to dig up the report from when my vehicle was written off. Turns out it was a different make/model so mine is not a Cat C. Yay! So glad I made a pain of myself to progress this through the various parts of the insurance system! Its currently on...

Important - Are you actually insured?

Interesting note. Part of conversations with AF resulted in questions on where vehicle is kept. I answered as truthfully as I could. She kept pushing the point, even asking what if my ex-partner moved the vehicle. I said she wouldnt, even though she is insured to drive it. Turns out AF was...

Important - Are you actually insured?

Short update. Legal cover from Adrian flux does not cover this type of problem. Could be insurers covering themselves, I have definately learnt the ramifications of the insurance industry today. AF Legal side is suplied by Auxilis (?), but not for this. They pointed me at Trinity Lane. Who dont...

Important - Are you actually insured?

Good thought Anaconda, re insurance cover. No idea how affect on value could be calculated though. Should have high up from NFU getting in contact in a couple of days. NFU were original instigators of the write off, probably in 1997 - although i have been given 4 dates that it occurred. (3 in...

Important - Are you actually insured?

Oh, its on the database. But no-one can give any evidence as to why. Spoke with my insurance, Experian, DVLA, and NFU. (Original insurer of when it was written off). But my main point is that if I can be unaware of a Cat C on my vehicle, any of you can be in the same situation, as its probably...

    200tdi Power engagement issue

Does the prop rotate at all? either one, front or back. If it does it looks more half shafts, or diff. However, I think they would go while pulling, not while driving away. Are you sure bellhousing isnt full of crud (from river) and the clutch is just slipping like crazy?

Important - Are you actually insured?

Thats my argument. If they cant prove its my vehicle, it should come off the database. I have high level manager from insurance due to contact me to discuss.

Important - Are you actually insured?

Believe me, I've been trying to get that info all day. Basic response is "the computer says no". Interestingly, Experian and Insurance company say they only retain records for 6 years. I pointed out that most cars last at least 10 years, mine is 35 years old and retaining these records for that...

Important - Are you actually insured?

Cool. You can also get back basic status (free) from your insurance company, dvla, and experian, by talking to them. But its a huge pain, you have to be insistant, and be prepared to work through the maze of call centre options, and be on hold for ages...
