Yes the fuse was in the changer, but doesn't have to be. Any weak electrical link could give a similar symptom. Another side effect was heat. The fuse area was noticeably warmer than the rest of the changer. Do you connect directly to the stereo receiver with the CD changer or do you go through...

I had a similar problem with another CD changer and the problem was a burned fuse. It still checked out with an Ohmmeter, but was limiting voltage across the fuse to about 5.5 VDC. This caused muted play and eventually overheated the changer's built-in amplifier.

I have some clearcoat issues on the hood of my 2000 Disco. About four places, a few square inches each, have begun to peel. The paint underneath is sort of rough in texture. Does anyone have suggestions? Seem odd to me.
