@300bhp/ton Bought it as it was pretty good nick, yes have ARB's installed. Will look at the ProComps.
@Knappster Thanks, and yes the tyres look crazy small with the lift.
If you don’t need the 4” lift, I’d revert back to standard. It will handle much better and new shocks and springs in standard will transform the ride. Otherwise, old man emu are very good, but very expensive. 235/70 16 tyres will also look lost...
Why did you buy a +4" lifted Disco for road use?
Standard shocks/springs should ride quite well, it should not be harsh or stiff. But you probably won't ever achieve a "floaty" ride, just the wrong sort of vehicle.
I quite like the Flatdog...
My 300 tdi is awful on the road, fitted with large wheels mud tyres and lifted 2 inches. Things weren't too bad before these were fitted though, it's almost like the wheel base is too short. If your not going off road I'd suggest getting things...
I replaced all the suspension bushes on mine with rubber oem and the overall refinement was absolutely transformed, it’s on standard springs and dampers.
I have a 97 D1 300tdi, it came to me with raised springs/dampers (Terrafirma +4" I think), and tired suspension bushes. The ride quality is pretty bad, harsh and crashing. It's fitted with 235/70R16 tyres.
It's mainly used on road, although...
Exhaust manifold gasket changed, some loose studs, but upon reassembly not fix. Glad I did it though as cleaned the intake manifold, and torqued everything up properly. Whilst at it cleaned up the starter motor connections.
So, then removed...
I've been slowly working my way through maintenance jobs on my D1 300tdi, most recently, the exhaust/manifold was blowing, so I took the opportunity to fit a decat downpipe, all fitted fine, with no leaks. However, when checking, I notice I'm...
@sierrafery - Fantastic write up + 1 sir.
@Jalfrezi - The D1 ABS has great big muckle teeth in the ABS rings bolted to the back of the discs, they could almost pass for diff pinion gears. I suggest you remove the sensors and peer into the hole...
Ok, if you can bring back the warning lamp to life i'll tell you what to do next, untill then be advised that the vehicle works exactly like a non-ABS one brake wise just that without the warning lamp's self test it might not pass a MOT
I'm also against bastardising vehicles by removing factory fitted systems so if we go back to where this thread started
First of all it would be good to explain how the ABS was "disabled" as it's disabled by default by the ECU when a system...
@sierrafery Thanks for your help. And I'm now pretty convinced to get it fixed up properly now.
To be honest, I don't know. I guess the previous owner removed the ABS bulb, as this doesn't light on power on. I can of course, check this and...
Thanks for the comments. I agree insurance could be an issue, but if declared should be legal so not sure any further problem at the point with fatal accidents/dodo
Only the 5 door XS and the ES had ABS as standard, with all the rest it was a customer option for a new vehicle, so it’s possible some D1s don't have ABS.
Get a quote for repair as it could be something simple.
I imagine if you remove it you won't get insurance and if you have an accident where someone is hurt you will most likely end up in prison.
Probably best to fix it I would think.
Same with it not working.
When I got my Disco, the ABS had been disabled, presumably because of a fault. However, I'm a bit uncomfortable that the ABS pump is still in place, so really should be working or completely removed. So, as I'm going through fixing stuff, I'm...
