This one is a bit of a wildcard, but try swapping the battery.
Mine had been standing a week and showed the same symptoms, changed the battery for a spare I had and everything went away. Only thing I can think if is that a cell had thrown a wobbly and whilst it gave enough power to start it...

Have a look on their site :D (its free!) but im guessing you need to give a call first and not just rock up.
Ive recently had a VCU/Bearings from them and am in no way associated, but I think its your best bet if everything is confusing at the minute - as my posts show, it took me a little...

Do you ever travel down to the South West?
I would think if you gave Bell Engineering a call they could book you in to give it the once over (its a little trek, but could help in the long run, 125 miles ish from Donnie)
Its all they do VCUs, IRDs and Diffs :D

Im in the same boat, though im halfway through swapping onto winter tyres currently.
Im tempted to keep the 17s for road use then if I want to get dirty, swap over to a set of 16s
As an aside - brilliant forum, with a wealth of info available on search (Ive lost many an hour going through...

Started to give the interior a deep clean with Autosmart G101 - turned out the dashboard is filthy.....it also turns out that the leather seats have been coloured sometime in the past, I might have to dye them again   bugger!!
Yes boys and girls....G101 is damn good stuff, but maybe...

LOL - we are very much alike, we currently have various bits of a 'man cave' in the garden and around the house (I quite like the look of a hardwood barn door and complete (and rather large) window in the front room!) - I just havent got around to digging out the foundations at the back of the...

Ive done nothing apart from measure tread depth (which is what I should have done before ordering a replacement tyre). I think I may have to stick to Mondo mode until I can afford to replace all 4 in 1 hit. Luckily I have 2 winter tyres to go on the front.....but I have my VCU sitting here...

Upper engine mount changed to poly.
Changed over steering wheel, went from a knackered leather one to a half wood (got for a total bargain) then had to retro fit the loom from old to new and move over the radio controls (taking a template from the old and cutting into the new) - everything...

Bit late now - but I keep looking at the Ice Desigs 'Shedist style' clutch kits - which although designed for a Rover would appear to fit a Freelader (will have to do a search sometime to see if anyone has fitted one).
Saying that....they arent cheap, but appear to sort a few of the known...

Oil / Filter change and upgraded the lower engine mount to poly (Ive never had a mount push out with just hand pressure before!?) VCU and bearings ordered - fingers crossed thats it for a bit :D

MegaSquirt? :D
Watching this with interest - its the sort of thing I would love to do!

Is the offer still on? Pay day tomorrow and I sense an order winging your way :D
(is it possible to send the VCU with the bearings pre-installed? and does the return VCU need to be sans bearings - or can I send it back as removed?)
Thanks

Open pictures on book face ;) (I started to get involved in the IRD post thread over there)

To be honest, this is the first car Ive 'hated' now I know its only the VCU its become fun. Helped by the fact its my first 4x4 and a set of ramps is all I need to get under it :D
Takes me back to my aero engineering days - but I digress!
Im even tempted to get an old IRD box and pull it to...
