Ha! I have seen this. I'm not interested in specialist 'toy' cars (be it track, off-road etc) as I like to use them actually as cars as well. I bet it is fun, though.
I agree that the Freelander is a really useful compromise between capacity and overall size. A Disco or 110 looks so much...

That's what I needed to hear! I've e-mailed Warren at MM for his advice and hopefully in time I'll get closer to making my FL a 'sorted' one ;) Thanks again for the input, Nodge!
I know they've been touting it for a few years now but no sign yet. It's a shame because in my opinion there's an...

Just had a look through Winu's posts and seen what he did with his diff. I'm sold on the idea, but it looks like it would require rebuilding the LR diff with new seals, bearings, pinion gears etc and I worry that this could become a money pit/one of those 'just one more thing' projects that...

Thanks for this. I’ve been reading through all the threads that reference the ATB (and the claims on the Quaife website) but I’m struggling to find anyone who’s actually tried it out in a Freelander firsthand. I’m wondering how much extra benefit there is over just the TC.
I understand that the...

Thanks Nodge! I didn't know you could get rear locking diffs for them.
I've seen the VCU seemingly do the impossible when I've been giving it the beans. I've been really impressed. Would increasing engine torque by any means (remap, RonBox etc) help with this, do you think?
What do you mean...

Hi all,
Long-time lurker and sporadic poster here. (Yes, I have looked extensively through the threads about wheels and tyres, maintenance, mods etc and have already willingly followed this advice.)
As we know, the Freebie's off-road capability is always couched in terms of 'surprising' and...

Thank you again, fellow Hippo owner!

Thanks for the advice! (And sorry for the delayed reply.) I’m fast learning what is necessary and what not, though I suppose a winch would give me some peace of mind. I’ve got a Hi-Lift and some waffle boards in the interim but am yet to try them in anger.
I’ve found the Freelander able to...

Interesting – I’ve seen a lot of off-roaders with everything mounted externally and lifts and massive mud tyres, and never considered that they might get caught up in branches etc.
Thank you for the advice. I worried that I would get stuck without some momentum, with the lack of locks and low...

Thanks for the tip! I’ll keep working on my technique. I hope the lack of locks and low range won’t hold me back too much. Perhaps I’ll look at Discos in the future if it does…
I hadn’t thought about that actually. I’ll consider taking mine off if I know I’ll be going somewhere tight.
Thanks...

That’s cool. I do love the old Series Landies too. I think there's one in the GLASS magazine which is open top with roll-up canvas sides. Looks like a lot of fun!
I’m not so worried about road handing – I’ve got an MX5 for that! Plus in my first green-laning experience recently I was grounding...

Thanks! I appreciate that there are some different tastes in the LR community… I’ve always wanted a 90 or 110 but I can’t afford one/to run one (this is a second car) and I wanted some of the creature comforts of a newer car.
Mind if I ask why you don’t like lift kits? I would’ve preferred...

In the interests of sharing:
Have a lift kit and some recovery gear to go on very soon, too!
