Just an update. Took head off again to check for crack, found a tiny swarf of metal on top of gasket near pot 5. This had stopped the head from seating properly and caused the migration of oil into coolant.
All fixed now! Runing smoothly... until the next time!
Ahh, thanks James. Did vaguely remember something about that. Yes I do have the 3 pipes on the FPS with one over the inlet to the front of the cylinder head. So although it is a 2000 defender it has a 15p engine.
Tried that but as you say very difficult to see. Certainly I cannot distinguish any numerals at all. It is a 2000 defender but unable to say with any certainty is it is the original engine.
