    Engine blew up

It was nothing to do with the engine, as it happened, it was a turbo hose. The hose (I guess air intake into the turbo) must have been weakened and collapsed when you applied the throttle, squeezing shut, therefore denying the turbo any air. As a result it dumped fuel into the engine, unable to...

    Engine blew up

Sudden catastrophic loss of power and clouds of dirty white smoke out of the back. 200 Tdi fitted in a Series III. I'm guessing head gasket?

    2001 TD5 S lack of power

Just a quick note of thanks. Did sort out the Disco eventually. It was a sticking wastegate causing it to overboost - a 5 minute fix. If anyone else has those symptoms, especially in a car that's been left standing a good while, I'd suggest trying that first. Cheers.

    Diesel or petrol Series 3

Apologies if this has been done to death. Looking at buying a Series 3 LWB. I incline to Diesel generally, cos I've always had Diesel landrovers (currently a 110 estate and a Disco). I'm in Ireland, so Diesel is significantly cheaper, and I've read that diesels do something like 25% better...

    Td5 mpg

No, I'd say the bulb in your fuel warning light has blown...:D

    2001 TD5 S lack of power

A new wastegate valve is only £15, I see. Would fitting a new one solve a seized wastegate rod problem, or is that another part?

    2001 TD5 S lack of power

Thanks for the responses. Haynes manual ordered! Overboost diagnosis sounds exactly right. It's not going to be something major, given the car's history (fingers crossed!). It's going to be something that has stuck or is binding from lack of use. And it occurs only when you're asking a lot of...

    2001 TD5 S lack of power

Any ideas before I just give the car to Landrover to diagnose? 2001 TD5 S stock, only done 36000 miles. Car is immaculate, FLSH etc, drives beautifully, but; I've noticed a juddering (perhaps a misfire?) when the engine is under heavy load (for example accelerating in third gear at about 2500...

    Smoke on starting

Cool, thanks.. thought as much. Anyone replaced a heater? Mine is farked. I'm ok with the Haynes description of removal until it starts talking about drilling out rivets. I like "unbolt this, bolt on replacement, put tools away, drive off" type jobs!

    Smoke on starting

Cloud of black smoke on starting from cold - I take it I should regard this as normal on a 300TDI with 99,000 on the clock, or is it something indicating imminent component failure? No noticeable smoke on warm start or revving engine...

200 or 300 Tdi, or neither?

    Definitely a 300, thanks folks.:)

200 or 300 Tdi, or neither?

I have a 95 M Reg 110 2.5 TurboDiesel County Station Wagon (9 seats). Is it a 200 Tdi or a 300, or neither of the above? Confused, since most accessories for a 110 are listed as suitable for a 200 OR 300 Tdi. Nowhere on my owners manual, used car invoice or V5 does it mention "200" or "300" Tdi.

    Newbie niggles

Fixed the red warning light by driving backwards and forwards, selecting difflock, then unselecting it again, backwards and forwards again.. well the warning light's gone out, anyway! Can I get to the blower without taking the heater out of the car? I was checking the electrical connections in...

    Newbie niggles

Hi there. Bought a Landrover 110 station wagon 2.5 Tdi, M reg, 99,000 on the clock, just before Xmas. Nice truck, in relatively good nick. Two small problems: The heater doesn't work. I know they don't really heat much anyway, but if you put it on "blow" and "hot" the fuse blows. I've tested the...
