Update,
After getting it trailered back home got a friendly auto leccy to have a look.
Much melted insulation stripping later and full dash removal traced the short back to behind the heater box, two wires had shorted together and caused major damage to the loom further up.
It's now back up and...

The smell was just a feint one before switching off, it's gone now.

I am stranded in Gatehouse of Fleet at the moment after a long drive I stopped the landy and it wouldn't crank again. The 60 amp fuse in the engine compartment had blown. And as soon as I put a replacement in that blew. Waiting for an auto electrician to come tomorrow to have a look. Anyone got...

Only five vehicles on any trip.
Colin and his glamorous assistant travelled from the northeast that morning and returned after the event.
Given the diesel costs and their time I think £50 is a really fair price.

Had the same problem with an off on on carling switch from Mud Uk which I used to replace the heater blower switch.
Light on when switch is off and goes off when switched on.
Otherwise works fine.
E-mailed Mud who said that to use the switch for that purpose I needs a twin pole switch which...
