so are these surveys a little flawed - if there are more 200tdi engines around or there are more landy owners with a 200tdi fitted then I rest my case. So even though the 300tdi is the better engine the 200tdi will always come out on top!

Thanks James and Lynall - checked it out and it is the master cylinder so will sort it over the weekend as it is not a major problem at the moment.

One last question - where does the fluid leak through and where would the signs of the leak appear? Reservoir has been topped up, the Landy has been driven over the weekend and has stayed at the same level for 2 days.

Thanks James - can you recommed the best make and part number for a master cylinder, and is this a simple job to do? So being new to all this, why does it squirt out of the reservoir top and is the top meant to have a hole in the middle of it?

Checked the clutch reservoir today and the fluid was low, looked underneath and there were no obvious signs of any leakage - topped levels up and when the clutch pedal was depressed clutch fluid squirted out of the reservoir top? Also the clutch is working ok but when the pedal is pressed down...

What does the 23L stand for as the Haynes manual only gives an under bonnet view of the 19J and TD5 engines, mentions other engine numbers buy not the 23L? Is the Air Filter, top left handside located in a larger cylinder housing, cleanable and how do you tell if it needs replacing?

Has anyone worked on or owned a Defender fitted with a 23L series engine? Any advive would be appriciated, Haynes manual doesn't mention this engine number.

I would have been disappointed if the banter had been any less:)

Is there anyone local to high wycombe that could give my newly aquired defender a look over for me and advise me if there is anything that needs doing? Of couse would I would ensure that adequate beer tokens:p are available, if anyone can help pse PM me.
