Cheers - my summations as well. The fuel pump does do its whurring and stops - when I presume pressure has been gained, but I have little confidence, an air leak is also very plausible.

2003 Discovery 2 TD5 Auto (107K miles). Deisel from a reputable garage - no issues as always use the same garage. No obvious fuel leak on driveway.
6 weeks ago a garage removed the fuel tank to carry out some work, when replaced the 'green' line in the fuel pump leaked...

Many thanks for the replies. I agree with the off road retraint. I am a 4x4 instructor and have run a 4x4 company in Iceland for 10 years, but it was the son-in-law (enough said)
I have a wide array of tools inc ball joint seperators etc.

Good day all.
My son-in-law went off-roading in his 2010 Freelander 2 (TD4 diesel) last weekend. Apart from a number of war-wounds his car now has play in the nearside steering. (ie wheel moves when holding it at 9 & 3 oclock , but NO movement when holding at 12 & 6 oclock)

After further checking it would appear that the LR90 has a faulty diesel tank sender unit and despite showing 1/2 full the tank was infact empty. Egg on face or what!! Cheers for all the help

Hi, my 200TDi died yesterday (16/11/07). I will start but runs very jerky on tick-over. When you press the accelerator the engine momentarily revs but dies within a few seconds. I have changed the fuel filter and lift pump but it still will not go. There are no obvious signs of any fuel leaks...
