A while ago, I dropped on a Russian Website offering the NISCAT (Nissan
Parts) for a meagre sum of roubles. Coincidentially, the first picture it
showed on the website was actually my Nissan Patrol model, with correct
parts numbers, the exact same software that I have seen used in my local
Nissan Dealer. I followed up the links and finshed up with an email from
some Scandinavian guy asking for several euros in exchange for the CD,
posted to home.
Obviously, being wary of funding some scan, I did not follow this up any
further at the time. However, I am thinking of risking the few 'euros' just
to test the waters, so to speak. Has anyone else discovered this link??
Regarding contrinubution to a web site. All the repairs that I have carried
out on my Nissan Patrol, I have taken digital photos of the work in hand
(Example stripping down and cleaning the automatic 4x4 front wheel hubs -
(which are a bit like stripping down and rebuilding a wristwatch). The
photos are kept as a sort of 'Tommy' maintenance manual. I have down the
same with front suspension parts, exhaust, radiator, rear brakes, handbrake,
engine heater plugs / relays etc, and placed the actual Nissan parts numbers
in the photo filename. Again, these could be useful, if each Nissan owner
did similar and a database was built up. At very least, a good shot at the
correct part numbers might help out some poor soul, or alternatively, some
guidance on stripping down / rebuilding bots and bobs.
A digital camera can be very useful aid in assisting rebuilds of almost
anything, as stripping something down is fairly easy - but don't you almost
always forget how you did it??
