I bought a vdo fuel gauge for the defender 90 years ago but never fitted it. I'm wanting to fit it now but when I'm looking at sender units, most places sell one gauge for a dip type sender and one for an arm type. I've no idea what kind of gauge I have. Is there any way of identifying what kind I have as most places are wanting £50ish for a sender.

Nick.

What age is your vehicle? I could be wrong, but I thought defenders were all arm floats.

It's a '94 300tdi. It's just that there is a choice of two gauges and I don't know which I have.

This one HERE is 301 010 002 it's got to be similar, and it's a float. You could always give VDO a call.

Thanks for that. I thought it might be a float but wanted to check first. Demon tweaks sell senders so I will email them first to check.

No bother. I've contemplated a few VDO gauges for a while. Turbo and Oil Pressure. Just been looking through the fuel gauges on the VDO site. All of the ones I checked the details for were float type. Best to be sure though! :)
