Another new member and probably a very old question.....

I've been away from Landrovers since adolescence - I rebuilt a couple of 80" series ones in my distant youth.

However have recently bought two low mileage 3 year old 110 td5's pickups for heavy towing for my business (waterwell drilling). It's great to be back to basics again!

However one of the TD5's is hopelessly short on torque / power at low revs -will even stall when empty / not towing on take-off without a bit of throttle. Situation is markedly worse once laden or towing a 3.5 tonne compressor.

Seems very happy once rev's are above 1500 ish and pulls well. General mpg is similar to other TD5

Vehicle has ample service history for its short 15 000 miles life and isn't using oil / throwing smoke etc etc.

I suspect that it is some kind of airflow / ecu problem and isn't getting enoough fuel at low revs.

Would welcome any suggestions? Could I diagnose by swapping bits between vehicles?

Many thanks in anticipation

change the air/fuel filter, gotta be worth a go.
keep stalling my td5 but only had it 2 weeks, been using autos for the last 2 years so prob me. but ive never stalled my dads 300tdi disco. mmmm baybe i better take my own advice in this

It may be switching to limp mode if there is a problem with one of the sensors.
Check the usual MAF and MAP sensors and change all air and fuel filters.
You really need to get an error download from the ECU to give you a clue.

Cleaning your inter cooler and intake manifold and then disconnecting your EGR so that intercooler and manifold dont get gunked up again should do it if all else it working fine.
