Hi guys. Got a new problem for you. :) whilst driving over bumpy track slowly I could hear a knocking from the rear. Got out and pushed driver side rear wheel with my foot and felt like wheel was loose but couldn't see any movement on wheel. I am away fishing and not sure if I will get away with the 30 mile drive home tomorrow. Any advice apart from call RAC? Cheers

first things first.

check the wheelnuts.

If they are ok you're gonna need to jack the wheel up and wiggle it left and right and up and down to check for play.

+1, if the wheel moves and the wheel nuts are tight I would say bearing failure :(

Would have thought if that's a wheel bearing you would have noticed it long before it got that bad

Cheers guys. Going to check it in the morning as ground to soft for jack here. The noise has come on quickly, wasn't doing it the other day. Only passed mot recently as well. If its not the nuts I take it driving home is a no no?

I'd say if it was a wheel bearing it would make noise all the time not just over bumps ;)

I'd go for shockers or badly worn bush myself .

Definite no no.

Do you have breakdown cover if it is looking bad?

Jacked it up and I can rotate the wheel back and forth about 3 inches. No movement any where else

It's not side to side movement your after its in and out check rear shocker get hold of it and try to move it. And all other bushes you will need the aid of a bar for the others .

OK, knocking seemed to stop up the track to the car park. Suspension was a bit lower if that would make any difference? So I decided to drive home and stop if I heard or felt anything unusual. 35 miles on motorway and felt smooth all the way. Looks like I will have to book it in for a check up as I haven't read that section of Rave yet. :)

Well at least you have checked .

Maybe something was in the boot but not now:p

Higher just means more travel in shock if it was bad it should do it all the time any hight .
