Hi guys,
I guess is a new one:
Stopped at a gas station and a second before turning key off a slap/bang sound from the engine. AC belt is off, the big one still on pulleys.
I'm on a trip, got the train now, but have to return in the after noon.
If some kind soul encountered this, would it suffice to cut the jumped belt, or is a sign of mainshaft pulley and I need a platform for going home?
I tryed to start again and slap sound is coming from the engine.

Pull the broken belt off

This is the next thing to do. I'll cut it off. It cannot be pulled, I guess is in the second row.

It's probably started deteriorating so cut it off yes second row belt

Hi Stefan.
yes you can cut it off for now it only runs the cooling compressor, but even so you need to know why it's jumped off, and i would changed the auxiliary belt at the same time.

The tensioner may have come loose.

You will need to check them both asap.

Thank you gentlemen!
Things sorted out, returning home now. By train.
It was the dreaded pulley.
Tensioner and belts were changed last year.
Found a service localy through a friend and they will change the crankshaft pulley and, probably, the belts.
And saturday will fet her home.

HI Stefan.
Lets hope they use decent belts and a Corteco pulley, and do the tightening sequence correctly.

Any of these belts are good do not use Dayco.

Being at 130km from home, the mechanic took an instant delivery pulley, forgot name, told me is a reputable pulley maker. He wants to finish today, so I can get the car tomorrow morning. Anyway, a new part would last at least half the life of original (22years and 230k km).
Other thing. He told me it would make some noise/vibration before braking, but I do not recall anything weird. For me looked like a sudden event.
Maybe after some noise will be missing?

Car running great again, did some light offroad in the Bucegi mountains to test. I hope l'll never have to take care again of that area.
