Hi
I have a 2005 TD4
On my way home after about 8 miles car lost power and i had to change down a gear when usually it has pleanty of power. Now when i put my foot down it just revs to 2500 to 3000 and MIL light comes on.
My first thought was the connector on high pressure fuel sensor, but this looks ok, also turbo hoses look ok. Even when not being driven engine will not rev past 3000. It has egr bypass and BMW crankcase breather.
Any ideas

I had same problem took it to garage and they put it on computer and showed it was high pressure fuel sensor fault. Replaced sensor cost me £350 a week later had to take it back to get engine management light fault cleared. Running now with more power for over 6 months.

So if you rev it when stationary does it then just sit at 3000rpm missing and spluttering?

What's the mileage?

THanks for replys
I have checked the open ended filter at rear of engine this is ok

Tick over if fine and starting is fine.

Engine will only go to 2500 then mil comes on, but seems to be smooth running.

Mileage is 67000

does it have good service history? fuel filter changed recently? very possible Lp pump faulty.....

Filter 60k or 5yrs so should be ok then.

Pump could still be tired, the fact it runs doesn't necessarily mean it can deliver at required rate.

There should a be fault code stored so you have the option to go for a new pump or have codes read first.

Satisfy yourself that it's the pump don't take my word or anyone else's. i'm not responsible if it's wrong.....;)

Use only genuine LR pump, cheap pumps are crap and noisy, well documented on here....part number is LR023043. search online for best price.........

link to guy salmon here. not a bad price for genuine

Genuine Freelander & R/Rover Intank Fuel Pump - was WFX000181 - now LR023043 | eBay

There should be some previous threads on replacement if you use the search........can be a struggle for first time so recommend you read up.

Update

Ordered new pump and filter from Island 4x4 yesterday at 9:30.
This morning i got an e-mail saying that it would be deliverered lunch time today. So i decided to take the pump and filter out so i could the just fit the new one when it arrived. But first i started the car and the fault was there would not rev past 2500 then MIL would come on. Removing the filter was quite easy as last time i replaced it i drilled a hole in the plastic frame so the filter could be pushed out with a screwdriver.
New pump arrived and fitted (pump and filter given a spray of silicone grease to ease fitment) Turned on ignition and waited for pump to prime eventually pump swithched off, repeated again and the started, revs up ok and no MIL. Took care for 10 mile drive all ok. So fixed with change from £130 and a couple of hours work.

A big thanks to all who offered advice:):)
