Is this yer coming out fred? We always knew you wanted a Freelander. :pound:

oh no he's coming onto the other side, just wait till the others find out, lol

the link just takes it onto the auto trader site, no hippo shown

I know they get some stick but have found mine to be a very capable car , after owning a few series landies I find the hippos an extremely capable car

know they haven't got low range or the height of fenders etc but none the less a great car

mines the td4 which is the same engine fitted to the rover 75 , they get around 40 mpg on a run, quiet, easy to drive, happily sit at motorway speeds all day long , easy to park

not being rude in any way but do u know what to look for on the freelanders ,

if u need any help there's plenty of us to help as we are all nice chappies , honest we are

they are very quiet on the road

sorry youve got a rover 75 so being the same engine , u would know it well, my apologies

need to have the same size tyres on it as it screws up the vcu

u can put the car into reverse and make sure it goes backwards in a figure eight on tick over , will give u a general idea if the vcu is screwed up and not feeling like the brakes are binding

yes ensure both props are fitted

the ird is the reduction drive or transfer box as it hasn't got a low or high range

has got hdc , hill desent control

see if there is water in the boot cubby box, if so the rear door seals have gone and are expensive to replave, £100 quid I think

if u get one that's 2002 onwards the exterior has black trim , different gear ratios etc

have a look on

Freelander - Fix problems, repairs, diagrams, whats wrong, faults, upgrates - Land Rover and will tell u what was changed and what year

hope that helps abit and we are always here to help

I think u will be pleasently suprised when u take it for a test drive

Easy to prove if the VCU is shagged. Jack up a rear wheel and see how easy it is to turn. If it won't turn at all (like mine after I bought it) then the VCU is seized and the prop shaft needs to come off pronto.
Spend a few minutes searching the Freelander section and you'll soon know more. :)

Is this like fraternising with the enemy

£500 due to its age, probably get offered a lot less ,at least now i have a Account in bearmach, should help LOL:lol:will read through that link

:lol:sort of but this is the problem, given a choice i would get a rover 75 or mgzt estate, our current cars a saloon and not practical at all,she wont have one again as in her words the cars to big,so looking at the freelander its like a estate car, only shorter and taller so better from her point of view as easier to park etc, also my parents are getting on a bit,she takes them out a lot, they have both complained the rover is too low to the floor, the freelander is higher up so better for worn legs IMHO

My mam is 86 .. she struggles to get in through the back doors because they are a bit narrow for her - the front seat is fine for her though and yes the height is perfect - just thought I'd mention it

Good Luck :)

If your brave (or stupid like me) for that sort of wedge you could get an 05 or 06 K series. My 04 K series with 103,000 miles was £1450. Ok you might be changing the HG sometime soon but the rest of the car will be a lot fresher. if you can do it yourself changing a headgasket is only around a hundred quid and there are faults in the TD4 that will cost more than that. True the petrol car will never have the torque for off roading but as a car but for the missus she will love it.
Go on, take a chance, live life on the edge, have a wee flutter, BUY A K SERIES.:lol::lol:

EH,no not getting a k HGF is half the story, dropped liners, knacked bottom rails and IMG failure are just to much aggro,i know the k when not blowing up or getting to hot is a cracking lump, and MG think they have cracked it in the MG6 renaming it the N series, but i know the TD4 much less to die

sorry but if it's a petrol 1.8 , run away from it as fast as u can , the td4 is the only way to go

great bmw engines and mines heading towards 180,000 miles, doesn't smoke, is very quiet and got great torque

sorry u know that with ur rover, sorry done it again, lol

before I bought the car i spent many months seeing which one to get and the td4 stood out a mile as the one to go for

if u can get a 2004 onwards that's the facelift model

good luck with ur search and shame u wernt nearer as I could have bought my hawkeye and plugged it in

please let us know how u get on

ps if we find out you've gone near a k series we will put u in the stockade , lol

hi mate

looks clean enough ,

yes the tyres have to be changed as axle sets , the new tyres must go on the back otherwise it will screw the vcu up

plse don't think I'm telling u how to suck eggs , but

as its a 5 door, check the sunroof works , front electric windows ,

what milage is on the clock ,mines a 2002 as well , the year the trim etc changed to black and also ratios were changed

if it's got odd sized tyres be careful about the vcu

also the figure eight in reverse as a really quick test of the vcu as a guide etc

if there's anything else plse give us a shout

hope this doesn't come across rude would u like my mobile number pm to u in case u wish to ask anything on Sunday , will help u all I can but don't wish to tell u how to suck eggs or for it to be disrespectful in any way

as I have two freelanders I have had a few problems but not many ,h/g no problems ,if you get a good one its ok ,service history is a must ,check under mats for wet ,sun roof leaking ,rear door not shutting properly ,water in rear tool locker ,rust on rear frame ,leaks from diff ,turn full lock if it feels like brake on don't touch it make sure clutch goes in and out smoothly tyres must be within 4mm of each other front to rear ,check rubbers on prop shat bearings oil leaks from gearbox , handbrake works ,when you open rear door window should drop before door opens no vibration when driving smooth gear change ,let it tick over for few minuets then rev it up see if you get blue smoke on the good side they tow well drive is smooth if you don't wear lead boots mpg is not bad comfy ,good driving position spare parts readily available not bad to work on best of luck with it
