When I bought my Freelander 1.8 XEi it had just had a Rover 75 K-series engine fitted to replace the original blown one. Now I'm wandering what other engines fit the Freelander 1 if the engine blows again?
I did think about fitting a diesel lump but would be too much cost so what other petrol engines would fit?

Thought about this myself! Came to the conclusion its not worth the hassle as there are thousands of 1.8 k series engines which will fit in around a days work.

They are:
Lightweight, small to work on, Powerful enough and parts are easy to get hold of. And above all cheap

Pretty much sums up what I like able the K series.

The best engine that was fitted to the Freelander was the L Series, so if there is an evolutional improvement it would be the TD5. Lots of the internals are straight swap, such as cylinders, so that may mean it even has the same bell housing mount pattern? However, I suppose that extra cylinder might not fit!
