It sounds like the FB but deeper. From the engine area and starts about 30 seconds after starting, lasts about 3-4 seconds.
Noticed it on other FL1's I looked at, so I'm assuming it's normal, just curious

Different noise, different place.

expect it's nothing like ur fuel pump, pas , alternator bearings etc

did once have a starter motor cause a bearing sort of noise

wasn't there something about the crankshaft pulley causing a grumble noise, ??

Well this is proving a stranger one than I thought.
As jb says, he has noticed it on other FL1's also,so I'm surised no other FL1 owners have heard it.
It starts 30 seconds or so after engine is started so feel that it's not any of the things you mention as they would tend to be there on initial start up.
I thought about fuel pressurising maybe. :confused:

is the in-cab heater fan "on" when you start the engine ?

( IF so .. is the temp. dial past 12-0-clock ? )

if youv'e the fbh fitted .. ignore the above :)

~~~~~~~~
have you AC on the vehicle ?
is the standard EGR valve fitted ?
~~~~~~~

i've not heard such a noise on mine ( td4 ) as you describe
( but then again have never heard an FBH in operation .. so nowt to go by )
except the PTC heater when it loads the alternator just before the idle revs jump up by 100rpm .. if engine is warm ..
( i.e. if engine is cold .. idle revs are up to that point in anycase )
aint much of a noise though .. just the sound of engine under temp. load at idle .. and / or .. alternator under load ..
somethin' like that :)

Thanks guys,
No, no, nope and no to those.
Clearly as this isn't the common thing I thought it was, the mystery deepens.
Have fbh, (making it's own noise), air con working fine, egr bypass fitted.
Didn't concern me before, now I know it's not a common thing.......:confused:

daft question

ur isn't an auto is it ??

Blimey! is this another super paranoid noise i`ve not come across before????

Oeerr, yes it is and so where all the others I noticed it on.
Now why would that be a daft question ???

reason I asked was there's reports of buzzing or noisy solenoids within the jatco gearboxes

on starting they buzz and after around 20-30 secs the noise stops

will see if I can hunt the article down for u

think it was on utube , but not sure ?? , old memory , lol

see if u can get someone to start the car for u whilst u listen under the bonnet and maybe try and pin the noise down

not sure but if a solenoid is buzzing surely that would mean it's a sign of failure , magnet becoming weak , ?? but someone with more experiance will be able to tell u more

will be interesting to see what the noise actually is

If I had a stop watch it would be exactly the same time around 30 secs from starting, and lasts the same time till it stops. That's why I thought it was normal as it is so regular. I have listened to it under the bonnet and it is coming from the top of the engine area and it's a definite grumble rubbing, not a buzzing.
Mystery.

When my battery is partially flat I can hear the relays chatter when I start up....but once the engines running no more chattering [emoji106]
This is a rubbing noise not chattering.
I was suprised jbene replied quickly saying they had noticed it too, now it seems we are the only people who have ever heard this noise :confused:
The 1st FL1 I looked at made the noise and it put me off buying it,( along with other probs ).
2nd one also did it, so then thought it was normal.
3rd I bought and it did/does it. This can't be a coincidence
