What's classed as high mileage for a TD4? I know it has a BMW engine but I doubt you'd find many on the roads with around 200k miles on them, like you often see with BMW cars.

Cheers

am getting close with mine 03 td4 186787 miles and all original including vcu diff and autobox just very very lucky i guess

I have a customer with 3 all above 150000 miles, 1 made it to 198000 then the timing chain snapped, the vehicles are hardly ever serviced & I only see them when they have driven them until they stop & have to have something done to make them go again !!

I have a customer with about 10 of them, all manual box. They are all 150-200,000m plus now,not been too much trouble.;)

Our 2002 TD4 is approaching 110k, most reliable car we've ever had. Engine-wise we had to replace the fuel pump this year.

The TD4 was introduced in 2000 so one would have to have driven 20,000miles/year to make 200k.

Mine is a 2004 Sport with 110k on the clock I've just replaced the vcu, LP fuel pump, new PS pump, new serpentine beltand it drives and pulls as if it was new I think it will go for ever !
Does anyone know when the timing chain should be changed ?

178000 on mine. Very reliable, never let me down. Not rattly and worn at all like some cars get with age and mileage. Not burning oil either. No rust. I think the post 2000 Freelanders were really tough cars and will outlast a lot of what is on the road today.

2001 TD4 180,000 new ird and vcu as I bought it from somebody that left changing the vcu too late and I didn't know about that issue when I bought the car

200k plus miles on my 2002 TD4.
Had it since new, do regular oil and filter changes.
The only issue with the engine has been water pumps, now on it's third! OK, I think the cheap second one didn't help!
Hoping for another 200k.......
