 Here is a sorry tale. I had a knocking sound on the transmission and decided my VCU bearings were breaking up. Anyway, I ordered the parts and stripped off the propshafts. After some days work! I finally separated the shafts (badly seized) and removed the bearings which were terminally damaged in the process, only to find that the noise was probably the damper which had become separated from it's hub. This wasn't obvious until it was dismantled. Well, I bought a new damper and renewed the vcu bearings. It was great for 3k miles but has now started to make a whirring noise, definately coming from the centre of the car even coasting in neutral.

I think the moral of this story is never buy cheap pattern parts. Anyone know where (other than Main dealers) I should buy correct LR bearings and the correct price?

Yeah thanks for that, they are the ones I bought. The price is a bit of a giveaway when compared with the real thing. If you want to do the job once, do it properly!

The genuine article - GKN mounts with the finest FAG bearing in the rubber centre-moulding.

£27 a pair from Foundry4X4.

Here's the link:

Parts & Accessories for Landrover & all 4x4: Freelander, Drive Line (General)

They come in a GKN box - if you want a LandRover box (same goodies inside) it'll cost you approx 3 times as much!

Fitted these 15K miles ago - perfect - don't buy the unbranded ones on eBay, unless you want to change them again in a couple of months. :(

I've the same ones as singvogel, foundry 4x4 are the company to buy from. I'm getting mine fitted shortly.

Don't buy cheap parts as its bit worth it.

Hi,
Foundry do 2 versions......£27 & £40 a pair.....i just ordered/received a pair of the £40 ones, GKNs & with FAG bearings......great quality.....prop shafts are off but having probs getting the old bearings off.....off to a garage 2moro to see if they can help. My tors dampener was a bit loose also but i have tried glueing it with a rubberised based glue & it seems solid, only time will tell!!!
Did notice tho that one of the bearings (the noisy bugger) was not sitting fixed at the correct 90 degrees.....
