Ok, ive spent the last hour in the search php on the forum and come up with the square root of nothing. All i can find is the same three people saying 'use the search button' and it only goes back about two years.

Ive got a question about the VCU. I understand how it works, how the gel goes after time and how it is when it fails.

Has anyone take a VCU apart / drained it / refilled it / tapped a grease nipple onto it etc and attempted to refill with the gel themselves? And documented it? If not, why not? It would be very easy to rebalance afterwards.

I understand its balanced and yet when people in the past have asked it in this very forum they get met with 'just because' or 'use the search'. Well, i need to know. Ive got an old VCU and i want to refurbish it myself.

Ok, thats a good point. But there are other ways to seal and/or drain the thing, holes drilled, grease nipple etc for refilling then put onto a balancer to be reweighted before being refitted?

Thats the thing though.. they dont often seize.. they just become all ****ted up after the gel gets so thick and gloopy, which puts the pressure on the rest of the drivetrain. Dont get me wrong, ive read all the threads on what they do and dont do - but these manufacturing companies are doing it.. im suprised nobody else has tried to replicate it at home.

If the plates are in good nick, once its open you should in theory be able to flush it all out and refill it with the fluid.
