Tyre pressure

Hi all Just bought a freelander 2.0 di 2000 model today,just need to know what the tyre pressure should be please.The tyres are 225/55/17?

88psi all way round.

The early handbook says 32psi all round, but this was found to cause premature tyre wear. There was a recall o*n the early models, and a modification was made to the rear suspension, and LR then recommended 26psi all round. Check with your dealer for correct tyre pressure for your model. If you have no standard tyre sizes, you will have to adjust for best performance yourself. Your tyre supplier/manufacturer may be able to offer some advice but they may not have tried your exact combination of vehicle / load / tyre / speed so their answer will at best be a compromise.

26 lbf/in2 (1.8 bar) all round.

if towing then 30 lbf/in2 (2.1 bar) all round.

Apologies for my misleading post which refers to the TD4.

I would also like to get this clarified by those of you in the know as I have also recently bought a 2005 TD4. I checked the pressures when I bought it and they are all 35psi. Should I be thinking about dropping them down to 30psi or even 26 psi?

the 26 psi information was superseded as it was found to be too low, think it went back up to 30.

there has been quite a lot written on this, (chalk test thread). It seems that it can vary according to what model, what tyres and what type of driving.

I did a bit of trial and error on mine (td4 auto) and found the best handling / tyre wear to be at 34 psi, but mine is a commercial with sh*tloads of gear in the back, and does a lot of motorway miles.

I'd be inclined to start at 33 and work your way down, try letting out a little each day until you find a pressure you're happy with.

I always have them (=Michelin Synchrone 215-65-R16 and now the wintertyres Michelin Latitude Alpin 215-65-R16) on 2.5bar = 36psi. I drive most of the time alone and mostly on the motorway but also in the terrain with that pressure. The tyre looks like the whole profile touches the road. Also the tyre looks firm. I found the car sweaping when the pressure was at 30psi as mentioned in the manual. The tyre service and myself never noticed a wrongly wear of the tyres.

the tyres on mine say do not exceed44psi but it also says this is for canada and the usa reference only
