Hi there,
Recently during the snow that we have had, I went to reverse my 2009 Freelander 2 from off the driveway and onto the road. I was in slightly ‘smug mode’ as I expected a four wheel drive vehicle to make mincemeat of these driving conditions, and yet to my embarrassment , even though I had selected the Snow/Gravel setting on the Terrain Response System, the rear wheels were spinning like tops with no movement on the front wheels. After a few attempts to reverse, I ended up digging my way onto the road.
I have read the Land Rover manual and viewed ‘You Tube’ videos of driving in all types of conditions but I cannot find why this has happened. Could anyone tell me is this operator error, mechanical fault, or perhaps 4 wheel drive and the Terrain Response System does not work in reverse?

Perhaps when you bought the Freelander you didn't check it actually had 4 wheel drive, and that the previous owner hadn't removed the front prop?

It's a common 'issue' ... ;)

PS and introduction would have been good, as would a search of the forum as this question is answered reasonably regularly .. it must be 'cos I know feckorlll about Freelanders really .. ;)
 
Could you have perhaps given it too much gas initially, easy to do especially if it is a manual.

I'm slightly confused - does the FL2 drive come from the center of the prop?
If not, how would this result in rear wheel drive only?
 
Think I'd take it to LR to get checked out - scanning the FL2 specialist thread, it could be a software glitch but I do not think OP should start into it!

Software changes power distribution via the Haldex via the terrain response dial, so, I presume that if something amiss in this system it wont perform as doctor ordered. Does seem odd that the back wheels were spinning and fronts not. Drive is 100% to front wheels until front slips, as I understand - and I probably don't, same as VW 4motion!

I'm probably wrong (usually the case!) but it does sound a bit like there's no drive to the front wheels, so I would investigate to see if this is true in other situations as well.

Well, the point is, there is always drive to the front wheels, regardless of TR setting - its the rears that are controlled by the software/haldex! As I understand - it it is a mystery.:)

Dunno, I didn't realise it was a Fl2, and as I said, I know feckall about FL's .. ;)
