I have a 2000reg td4 with failed turbo, i have heard td4 engine is same as Rover 75 CDTI, can I fit Rover 75 Turbo instead, as its sold much cheaper on eBay £50?

You wont be getting much for 50 quid other than the lesson you get what you pay for. the turbo is the same just different fitting

Update:
Today, I finally removed the TD4 Turbo, I was not sure what make was it, so now I know its Garrret GT1749V 7781450 B 708366-1
I have attached few pics, the shaft itself is wobbly, the blades are slightly bent, I havent opened the Turbo yet.
I am sure, I will have to replace all the gasket, bushes and seals.
One silly question, do I also have to replace the fan blades or I can pull the blades straight with plier? Will it need balancing?
if not repair this, I am thinking, on eBay I can get a new complete balanced core with blade for £128.
This is the first time I am trying to rebuild a turbo, I would really appreciate your input.

The only issue with buying a cartridge off eBay is the stop screw isn't calibrated. This needs tweaking once fitted to the car but you have to be extremely careful as winding the screw out too far will melt the turbo!! Ideally you will need some diagnostic software to do correctly.

I know people who have used them successfully in Audi's (my 2.5 V6 Tdi uses a VNT turbo too) But they also use a Diagnostic software to monitor boost pressure and help configure it correctly.

Best practice would be to buy a full turbo already set u by a reputable recon centre.

So Finally I bought a calibrated Turbo cartridge and rebuild the turbo, fitted everything back, no leaking anywhere, !! Great !!. The engine started as it always did, after revving it couple of times and driving it back and forth, it started smoking again, but this time its slight blue smoke, but not clouds like it did before. Also, it was dripping oil from the exhaust, I presume its from the last time when the turbo was faulty. I checked the engine oil level seems to be ok. I presume it could be, as the engine is heating, its burning the oil in the exhaust system, correct me if I am wrong.
Can anyone recommend best ways to clear/clean out the oil trapped in the exhaust system? Once its cleared then I would know I hv rectified the issue....

Unless the turbo is shattered I all ways just replace core depending on where I get them from £120 to £135 with gasket and washer set I have refurbed 2 in the last six months and at least another 5 for friends over here.

All have come with the stop screw pre set suppliers make it a selling point so far I have never had a problem longest one in service about 2 years now on a 2001 TD4

I normaly blast down the autopista 60 or 70 clicks clears the oil a treat, but then we dont have any speed cameras where I am

Thanks Fredi250 and Skinny Mike for your input.....:)
Update today:
The number two injectors thread had gone, so I fixed it by inserting helicoil and now its fine. The LR still starts fine no smoke initially but as the engine gets hot it starts to emit blue smoke. Seems like unburnt engine oil, I have already let it burn for some time but as the temperature rises it starts the blue smoke, that burns eye's :(. How long do I need to leave it running so that it gives out clear smoke? Also must mention I have replaced crank breather.

Take off the turbo hoses and intercooler and clean it all out. The oil will still be circulating in there and in the exhaust, soaked up by the baffles. The hotter you can get the exhaust the better it will burn but as for the intercooler and pipes, Ideally it needs to be removed and cleaned.

I reckon, it has sucked about 8-10 liters of engine oil into the exhaust. When I got it with smoking engine it had no oil on the dip stick and then I poured about 4 litres in it to check whats wrong with the TD4. And it sucked that as well in the exhaust. It drips oil when i rev it, I had it running for 15mins there is a large pool of oil near the exhaust and its all black in colour as was the old oil. I have put new oil and after the turbo change its showing me the same level in the dip stick, so its not loosing any new oil.
Thanks Dj4man, I will clean the intercooler pipes.
I have no MOT and TAX on the car so cant take it out on the road :(

If you can't take it out for a drive you'll never get it hot enough to burn the oil out the exhaust.
Option 1 buy a new exhaust
Option 2 be patient, get mot and tax, then drive it
Option 3 pick it up, stand it on its rear door and hope the oil drips out. ;)
