No smoke - no results - no print-out - for the last 2 MOTs the smoke test machine kept telling the operator/tester to check if the probe was properly in the exhaust pipe, as it couldn't get a reading at all.

After 3 tries the tester is prompted on the display screen to 'manually insert' a PASS result.

My advice would be to put a bottle of injector/fuel system cleaner through it before the test.

Also disconnect the EGR actuating vacuum pipe and block the end with a screw or golf tee.

Make sure you present it for the test with decent fuel such as Shell V-Power diesel or similar - definitely not supermarket stuff which smokes like hell - Morrisons is worst.

Mine has passed twice like I said above - with an EGR by-pass and even with 200ml of 2-Stroke added to the tank.

Good luck.

Singvogel.

Rag the crap out of it before you take it to the test center, this will help clear it out a bit. Diesels respond very well to being driven hard now and again, stops the exhaust system clogging up

The limit for turbo diesels is an average of 3.0 after three accelerations, which can be done twice.
If the first acceleration reading is below 1.5 it is a Fast Pass and no more accelerations are needed.

Had the MOT today. smoke test was 0.38 (1.46 last time) so i am very pleased. Don't know if that mainly due to the egr bypass (blocked vacuum pipes and left egr connected) or the additives. The smoke has greatly reduced from plumes of visible blue to a whisp of grey. Surprisingly the additives did do something. After hours of trying to fix the problem (did find the turbo boost soliniod wasn't working properly as well and fixed) i carefully read the printed out service/work sheet the vehicle can with and noticed that it had a problem with one of the injectors but that the problem was unresolved due to it being seized in the head. There is ways of removing seized injectors but i went for my own method of kill or cure and bought a bottle of forte and poured into 30 liters of BP ultimate. Also ran some forte directly through fuel filter. Found this made little difference. so bought a bottle of Bg244 and added it to the existing forte/diesel mixture (about four times the recommended dose) with another healthy dose straight in the fuel filter. Used the 30 liters and there was an improvement but still smokey so i bought 20 liters of asda diesel and added 100ml of millers ecomax and added a shot to the fuel filter cleared the smoke almost immediately. Im sure the forte and bg244 helped but am very impressed with with the millers only cost £13 and i still have enough for at least 4 tankfuls. Will use this product every time i fill up at just £1.20 (less if you buy larger quantities) per tank and it should recoup that in MPG plus clean the injectors and prevent needing to have them replaced i would recommend this product to anyone. Just hope the HP fuel pump hasn't suffered to much.
