My 52 plate TD4 recently had a fuel pump failure. Whilst waiting for the vehicle to be recovered I did a bit of reading - Haynes manual/ Rave/Microcat to see what was involved and how much it was going to cost. After all that I was totally confused as there was either no or conflicting information. Local LR garage took the car away and returned it next day all fixed. The problem was the rear mounted fuel pump by the offside rear wheel.
The info that I had found said that the intank unit WQB000020 was relevant for this vehicle, however the garage changed LR023043 along with the filter WJN000080. This pump is considerably cheaper that the in-tank unit. What I don't understand is that the in-tank unit still has the pump with it but is obviously not used - why is it still fitted? (Have had the vehicle from new). Having now spent time researching all this, apparently the inactive tank unit only has two wires to it (fuel gauge sender) whereas the working in-tank pump unit has four. When the carpet is up you can actually see wiring going to the new pump location.
The Haynes manual I have doesn't mention this pump at all. The RAVE info available from download doesn't detail this pump and the Microcat info is not that clear.
Apparently LR023043 was fitted from late 2002. So the moral of the story is don't buy the in-tank unit unless you are actually sure that you don't have LR023043!

Well as it goes, i will reply...

Can anyone clear up the question this Thread throws up regarding fuel pump setups on TD4'S.

Does any member know what year FL had what setup? Or were they all the same?

Is the pump in the Tank just a float chamber on some Models?

Very interested in any insight on this subject from members in the know.

Thanks as always in advance, as this will be a great help to many.

Cheers.
