Hi, I own a 56 td4 and have had no problems in the first 12 months of owning... Until now!
Me and her indoors decided to go on holiday a couple of weeks back and parked the freelander up for a week. All was fine. Came back and went to move the hippo and discovered a flat battery (less than a year old) I thought this was strange as all that I could see that could've possibly drained it was an iPhone charger in the 12v but even still, thought this was unlikely to drain it off that quickly. I fully charged the battery and the car would not start. I got the RAC out to see if they could shed some light on it but after plugging it into his laptop he was none the wiser. The only thing that did give me hope was when he took the intake pipe off and sprayed some magic engine start spray in which fired the engine but swiftly died again soon after. He suspected it may be a problem with the immobiliser as the battery had obviously been drained. I got a tow to a local garage and still no one had any idea. It's since been towed off to another garage for another diagnostics test where it's still not playing ball. Last option now is a trip to the landy dealers to see what's going on which I am trying to avoid for fear of my bank balance taking a rogering. Anyone know what could possibly be the problem? I would be very greatful for some help. Thank you please. :)

it could be you fuel pump in tank also did you leave you cd/radio in cd mode as this also drains the battery back to the fuel pump listen for it by just putting the ignition on if it is not working then you need to take it out ,it is under the offside rear seat take the carpet up only a couple of clips, then there is a cover about six or seven small bolts and the fuel pump if you are going to take it out is a screw like cap ring take the pipes out they are a squeez type clip and then get a drift and knock the the ring round to the left and it is then undone, when you put it back make sure you have located the pump properly. hope this helps

Hi
The only fuel pump and the fuel filter is at the front end of the offside rear wheel arch. Turn ignition on and you should hear it wirring away for about 2 minutes. If not try giving it a thump!

As the vehicle here is a 56 plate then the fuel-pump will be in the rear driver's side wheel-arch, Teddy. :( There should be no pump in the tank.

Not easy to change, but easy to listen for with ignition on as you say - it should whirr for about a minute or so before auto shut-off.

A charger left plugged in could well flatten the battery, along with all the other electrickery which cannot be shut off.

Singvogel.

Thanks for the quick responses. I forgot to mention I can hear the fuel pump working for a couple of minutes at the back of the car and also suspect that the problem could be fuel starvation. Does the fact that I can hear it working rule that pump out? Also am I barking up the wrong tree with suspecting the immobiliser? Just seems a bit coincidental to me that the battery was totally flat if it is a fuel pump..
Like I say the car tried to start with a quick blast of engine start spray into the intake which makes me think its a fuel starvation problem but obviously there are sensors and other possible ecu controlled things that could possibly be causing it not to fire...
I have also checked all fuses and can't see any blown so I'm stumped.
