I have heard that there is an alternative Crankcase Breather filter/ Depression Limiter Valve that does away with the L/R Filter type.

Has anyone got one and fitted it and a part number from BMW?

Thanks

I have one
I fitted it
got it from a BMW dealer
got the part number by doing a search on this site

you could easily do all the above ;)

I have the new type of filter straight from BMW, the part number I have is 11 12 7 799 224 (that's for the complete set, filter + housing), I understand one can also just buy the filter and use the old housing, makes about 50% difference in price I think.
Pic 1 is an old original one, pic 2 is a new original one and pic 3 is the new BMW one, all plastic and as I understand no need to replace anymore.

All - Thank you so much for the very swift answers. I have followed the links and have noted the part numbers - off to my local beemer garage tomorrow to get one.

Thanks again.

Dave

I did mine on Saturday, whilst servicing my newly bought TD4 (see Feeling VERY Stupid thread.
The original filter had never been changed and resembled a chunk of coke, completely encrusted in carbon, with the foam element disintegrating.
I really want to sort /check the EGR valve too, but my confidence has taken a blow re. the autobox disaster !!!!!!
I got mine from the local BMW garage, £20, had to slightly modify it to fit, as the locating groove in the housing was different. Just cut a new slot in the flange of the replacement part with a Stanley knife.
Cheers, Bill

Did my EGR yesterday (just a cleanout) and it's very very easy. The worst part was getting to the allan bolts on the underside of the unit but otherwise very straightforward. May I suggest wearing disposable gloves as there is a serious amount of very sticky crap that comes out of it! (Probably a good idea from the start anyways - which occured to me too late as I didn't use gloves at all - durr!) I cleaned mine out with mr muscle spray and a botttle brush. Afterwards I washed the brush in white spirit which cut thru the grease like a knife so might be a good thing to use to clean the housing itself...

Get back on that horse!! :)

PS, sorry about wibbling offtopic a bit ;)

I called my local BMW dealer today and gave him the part number I got from one of the pictures on here and they quoted me £50.......part number used was BC10 32J1A 11.12.7.799.224........Have i got the wrong one as most paid around £20!!

It's the last 3 numbers - instead of 224 you should use 367. IIRC.

yeah,

224 is the complete housing at about £50

367 is the internal part only at about £20

easy enough to do - but be careful around the injector returns

lol, the wrong dealer.....that's exactly what I thought!!!

Funny old thing really as I said it was for a Freelander and he just found the part in the list, seemed a bit odd going to a BMW dealer for a part for my Landy!

Seriously though, thanks for the info guys, much appreciated. I will get the internal bit and fit it at the weekend.

Having said on the main crankcase thread
http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/td4-crankcase-filter-62361-5.html
it was a brains-free op I now have a question! At the time I thought about the little bracket bit (see pic) and thought it musn't be necessary with the bmw part (seemed to be a good tight fit when it went in) but now my brain is telling me I probably f@cked up and should have looked! Please tell me I'm not a tw@t who has to do the whole thing again and reinsert the plastic bit!! Aiee!

PS Ebay has a seller who does whole uprated housing/part at £40.42 free delivery.

That oily plastic bit looks like the old LR filter sponge and holder.
Thats exactly the bit you were trying to get rid of by fitting the BMW part.
Old system was nasty oily spongy thing that collected all the gunk and turned into an air blockage.
Nice new shiny BMW thing looks like the vortex airflow sytem from a Dyson vac.
When I changed mine there was nothing looking like that that went back with the BMW parts.
Think you are ok. :)

Thanks matey, I defo used the bmw 'vortex' part and was fairly sure that the old 'plastic bit' from the LR sponge type was now redundant but just had that "oh crap" feeling that perhaps it needed to be reused as a spacer or summit.

Cheers :) :tea:

BMW crankcase fingy on fleabay.

Mine arrived this morning (ordered yesterday)

Just waiting on my egr fingy (it's made of stainless stell apparently) ordered discs and pads too. (Mintex)

I'm gonna take pics and everyfing! (Will post my efforts if anyone is interested)

This week I are mostly fannying wiv freelander!

BMW used about 4 different manufacturers for the vortex oil separator, depending on who made the one in your genuine BMW box will mandate if you need to cut another location slot or not.
