I have just got a 2004 td4 and the back box hasn't got long left
Looking at it, it looks to be all one from Back box to cat
Yet I've seen lots of back boxes for sale on eBay as seperate item
I'm thinking has mine been welded on ?
Has anyone come across this

Replaced the back-box on my wife's 2006 TD4 a few weeks ago and it was a separate item which took only minutes to replace.
The clamp at the joint between the rear-pipe and the back-box was a flat one, are you sure yours isn't the same and just covered in rust?

Should be a slip joint around the rear driveshaft... impossible to fit one without a joint there as there isn't the space to get it through!

I should be changing mine tomorrow if the weather permits will be taking photo's and yes there is a joint, I treated it yesterday with some zinc spray hoping it will last a little longer, I think it may be the original back box on my FL1 Arctic2

I changed mine on my old one and definitely a separate piece .the old ones on the TD4 had twin pipes coming out then they changed them even LR ones to a single pipe I am sure my old one had a little less power after the two pipes down to one whether it was a bit of back pressure I do not know.

Back box got fitted today the one I took off was the original by the look of it so not bad for 10 years old double skinned too, cheers Arctic2

Easy job isn't it?
My wife's 2006 TD4 was still wearing the original box and I think I had it all done in 15-minutes start to finish, didn't even bother running it up on ramps.
Used new rubber hangers but I inspected the old ones afterwards and they looked to be perfect so they are in my "might come in handy one day" box. Specifically sourced a Bosal box as I like there gear, cost was £49.99 (inc delivery) which compared very well with ones of unknown make.

Did it come off without applying any heat. I've never done one before myself, but you're tempting me!!!:D

Can still do boxes at same price, my supplier is a bit busy at the moment so would be a 2 week turnaround for the bits. Let me know chaps
