Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has some advice on how to drive uphill best. We are in Bavaria at the moment and when driving up a mountain the autobox switched up and down the gears like mad. It was very slow, when I accelerated it kicked down to get the turbo on it worked but switched to the other gear with same starting all over. Lorries go up there on around 25km/h or less. The Guys behind me were pretty pi... I guess :D and me as well :(. As i don't have my handbook with me so I am not sure if HDC would do any good or to go into sport mode and use it manual? Otherwise would there be anything else I go do instead?

Kind Regards
Matthias

HDC will do nothing driving up a hill. On the box, select Sport then manually select a gear that the engine can cope with. Ideally the Td4 wants to run at 2000 to 2500 Rpm for maximum torque.

Thanks Nodge68/Epicuser was way better this time:) up to 1000m, need a bit of practice on sport mode though

I was towing this weekend, and I just kept it in sport the whole time to stop it from doing what you mentioned.

I do the same thing. When climbing a hill under load, I find the box jumps between ratios. To stop this, I select Sport, then manually select 2, 3 or 4. With my V6, I keep the engine running at 4000 to 4500 rpm This eliminates the auto from ratio hopping and gives me some power in reserve should the hill get steeper.
