Hi everyone. I am new to the forum but hopefully someone can help with my problem. We have a 2000 freelander Xedi 5dr. The problem is with the rear wiper and electric window. The central locking works fine, the window drops a little when the door is opened and goes back up when the door is closed, as it should. I have found that, with the door shut I cannot open the window with the switch on the dash. If the door is open the switch will send the window all the way down but I cannot send the window back up until I shut the door again. So it will only open with the door open and only shut with the door shut. Also the rear wiper does not work at all, door open or shut. Anybody experienced this fault before? Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't think the window is designed to come back up when the tailgate is open - unless I'm wrong

The dash switch for the tailgate glass wont work until you have got the rear wiper working again - check to see if the rear wiper fuse has blown ;)

Thanks for the reply. I have checked the wiper fuse and it looks ok. Going to get my multimeter tomorrow to test properly. Like I say I can send the glass down with the dash switch if the door is open and up if the door is shut. Will do some more tests tomorrow and see what I come up with. Thanks again.

The Tailgate glass is designed not to work on the dash button if the ccu does not know the position of the rear wiper.

I did some tests for someone last year - one was to remove the rear wiper fuse and try the tailgate glass dash switch - it didn't work, (only tried with the tailgate closed btw) fuse back in and it worked fine.

Well guys thanks for the helpful replies. I am on step nearer to having a full set of working electrics on the rear door. I got my mutlimeter on it and double checked the fuse which was ok and there was power there. I took off the rear door inner panel to access to wiper motor. I tested the wiring and found good power supply and earth so a gave the motor a wack with a hammer and it moved a little. Got a knackered motor but it must have moved to the park position as the window now works on the dash switch. Only issue now is if I have the window open slightly (for the dog) when driving, if I go over a bump the window winds all the way down, almost like an anti trap function. Does anybody else's do this? Thanks.

there are sensors In the back door to tell it when the window is up so the wiper can operate but do not ask me where they are I think they may be in the motor its self.

Is it a 3 door?

If it is then there is a micro switch to to tell the ccu that the roof is on or off

If the roof is off then the tailgate glass automatically drops down out of the way

If the roof is on then the tailgate glass functions normally ..or should lol.

This switch could be playing up when you go over bumps....if it's a 5 door, all this is irrelevant ;)

Sorry its a 5 door. Thanks anyway though. Im going to order a new wiper motor, arm and blade then see how it is. Sort of explains why the wiper arm was missing when I bought it.
