Stumped - Rear seat stuck

I went to fold down my rear seats and the lever just went loose on the large seat and didn't unlatch it. I'm guessing that either the cable has snapped or pulled out of the plastic handle.

Anyway, how can I unlatch the seat in order to mend as my dog guard is currently in place so access to the rear of the seat is somewhat limited.

Any suggestions?

Ok so I see this is common problem, but I have a similar but different. My 2001 fl1 3dr, the rear seats spend 99% of the time folded up! allowing more space in the boot, mountain bikes, pallets or what ever. Anyway I wanted to put the seats up to take some friends out the other day, single seat has gone back up fine but double seat folds down but the back won't lift up, it gets stuck half way. Any suggestions?!

more than likely something under the seat on the floor and it can not engage properly
