srs

i have just got my frist freelander and the srs stays on all the time when i toke it to the dealers they said i need a new rotary coupling has any 1 got any idea were i can get 1 from cheap or any idea how to fix the srs thanks

Check the connectors under the seat/ seatbelts first. If they are ok, for the love of god, take it to someone who has a fulat code reader and plug it in.. DO NOT go to the mean stealers... erm, i mean dealers

They can try and reset it for you (shouldnt cost more than £20 in a good local garage), or if it wont reset, give you the fault code and some advice on how to fix it more cheaply than a LR dealer will

got my srs fixed now
got a rotry cuopling for it and put it on now the srs is off got it for £25 not the £200 plus that the main delers wanted thanks for the help

Did the light go off on it's own after fitting the rotary coupling?

My SRS light is also on but I have not had it checked on a diagnostic.

Where did you get the part from?

Depending on the cause of the SRS light, depends on if it will self extinguish after so many 'clean' ignition cycles or if it needs a DTC clear (or hard reset might work).

Normally the deployment module related dtc's require a clear, whereas sensor or signal faults will self extinguish.

yes the lights did go of and i got the part from a scrap yard i tok the battie of for ten mins then did the job when i put it back it was working again

no you undo the battire leve it for ten min or a cup of tea then you take of the air bag the are 2 srews in the back of the stearing wheel and 2 in the coling then the stearing wheel and unplug the leads and undo 4 srews that hold the cuopling in then put it all back the same but do not drop the airbag it toke me about half an hour to do

Thanks - sounds straightforward

it is but you need the hex bits for the srews that hold the air bag in the 2 behind the wheel

Good I have those!

get it diagnosed before you going buying bits at random angeloc...theres a whole lot more to the srs system than a faulty seat wire or dodgy rotary coupling....

Cheers yes I would have done - I realise it could be a shedload of other things. It's most likely the belt tensioner has been unplugged while ignition is on.

this should clear when plugged back in with the ignition turned off, then turned on.

had it a few times with mine when I forgot to plug it back in

Are you sure the light will go off if it's tensioners - I was led to believe nit and it had to be cleared by a dealer or Hawkeye?
