Hello all,
Well, it's ****ing down with rain and I'm part way through changing out the clutch on my 2005 TD4 Freelander.
I have changed clutches before, not on landrovers though.
I have read previous posts on this subject and I am now left a bit confused. I also have a copy of the Rave manual.

Does the IRD unit have to be removed. Can it not be left in place as it has to be pulled to the right away from the gearbox to clear the splined shaft and then lifted out.

In the rave manual, it shows 7 bolts to be removed fron the gearox bell housing including one that appears to be behind the n/s drive shaft cup. Is this bolt inside the bell housing?
Are there no short cuts?

Cheers

From reading other posts on here BD, I think you've got no choice but to remove the IRD, to make things easier. By all accounts, in the grand scheme of things it isn't that much in terms of extra work ;)

Yes, it is now becoming clearer. I can see the head of the last bolt on the bell housing behind the IRD, so, it has to come off.
Oh well, at least it's stopped raining.
Cheers

Actually IRD doesn't have to come off, it's just easier if you resign yourself to taking it off from the beginning! I changed my clutch and left the IRD wedged in place because I thought it would be easier. Apart from anything else it makes removing/replacing the elusive g/box bolt much easier. I have to say it rained when I did mine too so I pitched a gazebo over the front.
