Hello, I have a question about shocks and springs on a Freelander. I have a 1999 1.8K with original suspension and what I'm wondering about is that would shocks and springs from a diesel model of that same year fit 1.8K and if they do, are they stiffer?
My plan is to get rid of the original exhaust and tig weld a long range fuel tank from aluminium in to that space and fit a shorter exhaust that will come out before left hand side trailing arm.
I live in Finland and our law is allowing to heavily modify exhausts now, just have to have same number of silencers as in the factory pipe, but not necessarily the same kind. So, there will be lot more weight in the back due to more fuel, so I assume that it would be better to have stiffer suspension. I'm not looking to lift the car, that might come later with custom set of springs from local manufacturer.

I fitted a 55 ltr LPG tank under the rear floor with standard springs /shocks you can feel the extra weight when both petrol and gas tanks are full but unless you drive like Ari Vatanen its not a problem.
and gentle off roading is no problem

I'm sure the K and Diesel engines would have the same rear springs - maybe different fronts, but I can't see why the rears would be any different.

Is the larger tank an attempt to get HGF down to once per refill?

Thanks for the replies. I have planned to smooth out the boot floor to get maximum volume for the tank.

The idea behind large volume tank is that I'm planning a trip around Finland going round from Estonia - Russia - Norway - Sweden and back to Finland from Åland. The tank is for the long haul up from St. Petersburg up to Murmansk, I have no idea how many petrol stations there are and where.

At first I was planning a trip to northern africa, but there is quite a place just across the border to the east, so why not go there? It's not going to be the adventure of a life time but sure will be different, I hope :)

Spring specs and differences between models are here:

Freelander - Suspension Specifications - Land Rover

All models have the same rear springs

There appears to be more than one spring available for the rear, as like the fronts they are colour coded as are the damper assemblies .......... unfortunately I dont read Russian.

Perhaps a Landrover main dealer can help with more info and specs ?

This is something I am interested in too !

not the best but all I have to date

Its just a extra length attached on to the original exhaust instead of the freelander silencer with a powerflow end can
the can is a bit noisy but I fitted a aftermarket Motorcycle baffle cut down to size
